Makaay sucks

Was happy we signed him. Better Makaay than nobody. Gave him a fair chance. But unfortunately I didn't have to change my mind. Makaay is a great counterattacking striker. But that's it. Unfortunately Feyenoord, who like Holland, need to win most matches, have no use for a counterattacking striker (apart from when leading 2 or 3 nil). Was 100% right he featured so little for Holland.

Don't misunderstand me Makaay is playing OK, some really good matches, mainly good and in some matches you hardly see him. He does what he's expected to do. Just don't like the way you have to play to accomodate him / get the best out of him. He'ld be great for Porto not for us.

By the way (axe) he can't play on midfield (saw him try a couple of times). He should play the offsideline.

The reason why he was so good for depor but never replicated his form in the Dutch national team.

I think he is awesome, yes he is having a setback at the moment. But he is getting abused in this team and system we play.

433 with not even real wingers then its 4231 with him alone upfront.

Its not like the rest is creating much chances for him.

I agree with Fey, he will score goals for fun (Depor + Bayern) maybe it’s the system, then again with Bruins what’s the worry.

His goal per game ratio was slightly better at Bayern than at Depor and we hardly get to counter-attack in the Bundesliga. He is a fantastic counter-attack striker, for sure, but I don't think that's all there is to him.

don't think makaay is good with his back to goal and he's not good enough footballer to play on the wings.

overall great striker though.

Don't think he would be better off in 4-3-3. The problem is when we have our defenders on the half way line & the opposition's defendce is organised, he's pretty much useles. Bit exagreating to make my point.

The system is the right one for him. He likes being the lone man up front. He loved it at Depor too. The system is right problem is our defenders are not great at build up play (bar De Cler), so our midfielders get the ball too crappy, too late for having any chance of setting up a counterattack. We create chances if we win the ball on midfield, because then we can hit teams on the break. In those situations he indeed is lethal. Pity he gets so many wrong offside calls agianst him (he's too sharp). Cost us 5-10 goals.

Anyway think a striker for a topteam in the Dutch league/national team should be capable of being dangerous against parked busses.

Think we play to reactive to get the best out of Makaay & like you remarked the atmosphere is poor lately. Think they have to do with eachother. I want us to take the game to the opposition.

Agree. I'm a bit exagerating to make my point.

Just think if you want to play a certain way, you should pick the striker who's best at playing that way.

Of course he is not the best striker ever, but we cant afford the likes of Adebayor etc.

And if we can, like with RVP they leave when they are at their best. We usually lost the battle of the midfield cause we play with three little boys on the midfield..who usually lose the ball.

I say, keep Bruins, put a few stronger midfielders around him. And let give him that killer pass.

Then we can hit them teams on the counter and Makaay can do his job!

I think we should go Brazilian: 4-2-2-2 with Gio Landzaat - Bruins Guz - Makaay new signing (even with Mols). Would even consider moving Gio to central defence, so we have better build up / more chances of swift counterattacks.

Yes and he is having a poor season, some of his goals have been out of this world to be fair.
