By then Chelsea may well have bought in a manager that likes his team to play football rather than hoof it tactics and long-shots

I think Pato is a good signing in the medium to long term.

Re: Chelsea seal Pato deal
i can't quite see a 17 year old brazilian forward doing well, playing for chelsea in the premiership. He doesn't appear to be 6 foot 5 and build like a wall and id wager a few bucks that heading and tackling arn't his strong points.
after spending 90 mins in the freezing rain getting kicked to bits by bolton and having frank lampard battering 50 yard balls straight at his face he will never want to play football ever again.
Still he might be good at diving.

Exactly. There's so much more that's wrong with this move than just Jose Mourinho being Chelsea manager.

This deal is not done. Milan, Inter, Real and Chelsea are all after the player. Latest reports suggest that England's work permit laws puts Chelsea at a severe disadvantage. Pato's agent said that though they made an exception for Anderson, he doesn't think they will do the same for Pato: "With Anderson, he obtained his permit to Manchester United with the condition that he was a talent of outstanding quality - and I don't know if Pato would be treated like this."

Re: Chelsea seal Pato deal
Ask anyone in Brazil, Pato is really really rated as a huge talent...Tim Vickery, the BBC South American football correspondent, who knows his stuff, has said Pato has the makings of a genius.
So if Chelsea want him, the permit won't be a problem IMO. They can also always do like they did with Alex and loan him out.

All I'm saying is that Pato to Chelsea isn't a done deal. There could be some twists.

Re: Chelsea seal Pato deal
I agree, I was just posting about the work permit part. tbh I'm surprised Milan find the fee excessive, because though Kaka cost just 10million, it was an out of the blue signing so there wasn't competition from other big clubs. Also, the market has inflated a bit since then.

Re: Chelsea seal Pato deal
Last year it was still a bit dull (I was surprised because post-World Cup is always very hectic and has a lot of players changing clubs), but this summer is the first time in 3-4 seasons that every big club in Europe has really entered the market with serious needs.
So in addition to the gradual natural recovery from the crash of 2002-2003, there is also a rise in prices because of the increased demand. The wave of new money in the Premiership is also making an impact, especially within England as we're seeing with Bent and Reo Coker, etc.

Re: Chelsea seal Pato deal
Maybe Chelsea can lend him out to PSV like they did with Alex. The Dutch league has proven to be an excellent league for young Brazilians' development.
I must say he is well worth the money from what I've seen and heard. If we didn't have Bojan and Dos Santos I would have been screaming for his signing for Barça.

I saw a latest interview by him on 'FIFA Futbol Mundial' (the FIFA magazine show) they profiled him , and saying the usual being linked to Milan + Chelsea , even on a latest article on him on the FIFA site , no done deal has been made.

seeing him in the U20 WC , i can understand why he is wanted
exceptional talent (reminds me of Kaka)

Re: Chelsea seal Pato deal
Anyone want to make any bets on there being a £30m+ transfer this summer?
There hasn't been a transfer of someone well into the 30 millions for a few years now.
The main contenders: Milan, Inter, Chelsea and Madrid

I'd be surprised if Milan spend £30 million. Have they ever spent anywhere near that?
