    I disagree CT

I think we will be incomparable to last year when the new team and players get acclimatised. remember we basically had no left wingers last year (gonzalez doesn't count as he was $h!t Wink ). now we will have kewell, babel and benayoun to play there. this is an instant improvement. torres is also a huge improvement on what we had although obviously some people may try to say otherwise

just to do a stupid player comparison

    torres >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>. bellamy
    voronin >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> fowler
benayoun >>>>>>> garcia (for the league)
    babel >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> gonzalez
levia >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> zenden (I don't even need to see him play to figure this out)

so the squad has been strengthed better than a lot of people think. we have so so many more options now

I guess the only proof will come when the league starts
    ok

Not too mention the addition of Mascherano in midfield.

What people also forget is that Liverpool (like the year before that) had another slow start last year. Mostly defensively. Once they clicked they were the second best team in prem - even with their poor attack.
Now attack has been bolstered, the left wing problem has been adressed and effectively fixed; and the defense doesn't have to feel another out first. Liverpool are a team of momentum; if they start on top they'll keep going on like a juggernaut, and with rafa's rotation policy will still be the freshest in feb/march/april of all teams.

Liverpool newboy Yossi Benayoun has revealed the presence of former West Ham teammate Javier Mascherano will be a big help as he tries to settle into life on Merseyside.
The pair became friends during Mascherano's five months in east London, with Benayoun acting as an interpreter for the young Argentine.

"It will help me that Javier Mascherano is here already," said the Israeli playmaker. "I spoke with Javier a lot at West Ham because I was the only person there that spoke Spanish, and I acted as a translator for both him and Carlos Tevez when they first came over.

"When he was out of the team at West Ham, I had told him that he could play at a bigger club no problems, and look how he ended the season – playing in a Champions League final."

Meanwhile, Benayoun is prepared to adapt in order to feature week in, week out at his new club.

"There is a big squad here, and when you agree to sign at a club like Liverpool you are already aware of these things," he says.

"I can play in several positions, but to tell you the truth I will play in any position as long as the manager picks me!"
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

isn't that nice, Masch is here for Yossi and Kuyt is here for Babel Hug

The thing that impresses me most is that he looks fit and strong.

I keep saying it, if he is fit, on form and firing on all cylinders he really will be like a new signing.

Definately up there with the top 5 wingers in the premiership when fit.

Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini could be on his way to Liverpool after stating that the Bianconeri have neglected him.

The former Italy Under-21 captain claims that he is worried about his future in Serie A and is waiting for club officials to clarify their plans.

“No one has called me or tried to contact me,” he revealed. “They have focused on renewing the contracts of the important players and this is logical.

“However, they haven’t considered the players who gave their all to bring the team back to the First Division. I believe I might risk playing only 30 per cent of next year’s matches and I cannot agree to this.

“I have plenty of opportunities, but I only hope someone will call me to explain what the plan is. Unfortunately no one has done this so far.”

Reports in Italy suggest that Liverpool have offered £5m for the defender, although it is understood that the Old Lady value him at £7m.

The Premiership club are focusing on Chiellini after the deal to bring Manchester United left-back Gabriel Heinze – a former Juventus target – to Anfield stalled.

As written in the Werder thread already, I expect you guys to beat us tomorrow. And as if we didn't have enough injuries and missing key players already, now our goal keeper is injured also, and most probably won't play. I expect a good spanking now.

But whatever, it's a test match, and it will be interesting to see the new players in action, Torres and Carlos Alberto in particular.

I know the guy, was just cracking a poor joke Wink

I think the match will be light hearted, and probably finish 1 or 2 nil to Liverpool, but at the same time could quite easily finish either way, after all it is a pre-season freindly.

I know nothing about chiellini and im still praying we sign him over heinze

Juve will probably not want to be selling thier best kids though but on the positive side if we are linked with someone else it means we are moving on from signing heinze which can only be positive

Torres has a slight ankle injury, and isn't expected to start tonight...But he may come on as a sub in the second half. Babel and Benayoun may also feature at some point.
