Remove Fabregas and Scholes out of this and we have a truly interesting thread!

Difficult to say really, it depends what criteria you judge by. Fabregas and Gerrard are probably the most integral to how their teams play. Lampard contributes the most in terms of goals, which can't just be dismissed because he is a less-capable footballer than the rest, and Scholes is just class. I'm sitting on the fence for this one, I can't decide.

I think Lampard and Gerrard will do more attacking than Scholes and Fabregas because of the roles they play in the team.
At this moment i would say Lampard but he could have a problem if Ballack is back in the team.

Using Giggs (1-2 years older than Scholes) as an example I do worry that either this season or next season Scholes will start to become a lot less consistent, which is natural being 33/34.
Gerrard and Lampard despite the flak are big players for both there clubs. With Cesc if he was able to get his shooting sorted he could really make a difference for Arsenal, hard to tell at this stage though.

Scholes is without a doubt my favourite player in the world.
He for me is a footballing genius, his vision is incredible, passing usually spot on, has a fabulous shot, and is a real winner.
Only really in the last sort of 5 years has he really shone through for me, prior to that he was a striker and then a second striker, but he has excelled in midfield as a playmaker
I doubt he'll have the most impact out of the 4, but he will definately be the unsung hero whilst the other 3 will be grabbing all the headlines, but i'd watch Scholes all day when hes on song.

Good finish from him last night. Hopefully he won't go virtually a whole season without scoring again this time around.

Fabregas and Gerrard.
Fab - will add more goals to his game and will lead us to CL glory.
Gerrard - this will be his season.

Re: Scholes, Fabregas, Lampard, Gerrard
When you look at Man Utd, their most important players are Ronaldo, followed by Scholes, Rooney and Rio IMO.
When you look at Liverpool, their most important player is Gerrard. By miles!
When you look at Chelsea, Lampard's only real importance is getting a few goals - some of them do contribute to Chelsea's points total though.
At Arsenal I'd say Cesc and RVP are the key players.
So, all in all Gerrard>>Cesc>>Scholes>>Lampard

No it isn't as bad as Rooney's. He can play v Chelski, but thereafter he needs 1-2 weeks rest (prob. 1 for a guy like him), so he'll miss the match v GermanyTweedle wrote:jonathan de guzman wrote:Gerrard break confirmed.

He is apparently fit to play against Chelsea, but they will try to rest him for the England game from what I've heard.

Re: Scholes, Fabregas, Lampard, Gerrard
Whats the betting that even though he's last in the votes Lampard will score more than the other 3, even after penalties have been taken out? (he's the only one of the 4 who takes them).

Re: Scholes, Fabregas, Lampard, Gerrard
He almost certainly will be the top scorer out of the four. That is why I didn't want to be dismissive towards him. The other three are crucial to how their teams play whereas he isn't, but his goal record can't be ignored because it is impressive.

He does finish as well as most strikers, fair play to him that goal last night was excellently taken.
If only he could do all that and do the work of a playmaker as well.

I reckon they'll both be useless on Sunday and still do enough in flashes to get rave reviews from the media.

Ballack will move to us (Werder Bremen) in the winter. He and Frings will be united at the club also, and we will win the CL.
*sigh* How great it would be if we could afford him.

Not strictly true, but understand what you are saying. Carragher keeps the defence together so is as indespensible along with Reina. And in order to let Gerrard drive forward we do need a player who can hold the space in behind, and although neither Alonso or Masch have nailed down this position, they are vital to allow Gerrard to be our most important player.
