so if germany do well this season with bayern, hsv, bremen, and all italy clubs fail to quailfy for next round, whats very likely is atm, german league will come very close to italy in the ranking

and in the next years we "could" really overcome them

About as likely (probably even more) France, Russia & Ukraine will threaten Germany's position in the future. All 3 countries have a higher percentage of their clubs left (& less overall clubs), so it's easier for them to win ranking points (A Germany win is 3 points divided by 8 = 0.375 pts, an Ukranian one is 3/4 = .750 pts). Add to that Italy have their best clubs participating again. Germany's only chance is Italian clubs snubbing the UEFA Cup.

Your still OK. Holland ( currently 7th) & to a bigger degree Portugal (currently 9th) are inmore trouble with upcoming nations.

Think you underestimate how much easier it is too win a lot of points as a country if you've less clubs participating / a higher percentage participating in the UEFA Cup. Mind you in the epriod 2005/07 Romania managed to earn 8 ponits more than Germany.

Many people underestimate the money and power in Russia and the Ukraine. Ages ago I saw a documentary about Mentalist in the Ukraine..their complex would dwarf that of Real Madrid.

Those clubs are coming, better be prepared for it.

Ukraine are currently 3rd in UEFA coefficients earned this season. And I am quite sure they will end the season ahead of Spain & Italy, considering that they have 3 clubs still alive, all in UEFA Cup.

we should consider ourselves lucky Ukraine & Russia aren't the best places to live / play your footy, otherwise they'ld have snapped up even more great players. They've plenty of money.

The top Russian & Ukranian clubs all have top quality squads. Some even play entertaining football, not the grey mouse communist well-oiled counterattackingmachines anymore

Hoffenheim have to find their form or some new players if they want to compete in europe next season. VfB and Leverkusen need a more constant form.

It also depends on the mercato this summer. I think most casual fans of Serie A know what signings each of the top clubs need to make, but whether the clubs will actually make those signings is another matter.

Also if Genoa qualify for the CL, they will most likely go out early. Fiorentina or Roma would give a better account of themselves, though the latter doesn't have much chance of qualifying anymore.

If Italian teams start to take the UEFA-cup serious....then I wouldnt bet on it Otto!! But only if they take it serious!

as long as Inter have the clueless Mourinho (8 points out of 6 games against the likes of Famagusta) I am not worried

Aslong as Milan are in there, then Bayern have no hope of progressing very far in the CL (and they are the only Bundesliga side with any hope of winning the CL).

I don't know if you missed this but Platini is removing the the 4.th cl spot from the big leagues now allthough that might just mean Italy would lose their third spot to Germany. Also I wouldn't take Milans performances in Uefa Cup to seriously though prob a deserved win for Bremen. Would you really bet on Werder if they met Milan in a Cl tie?

Juventus won't lose any of their good players this summer but likely add to their roster and if Inter get another creative player they will suddenly be much harder to beat.

Italy is on the up at the moment and has been for a year now so I can't see it happening.

Also the spanish teams have always been poorer then their european counter parts except for Barca/Real and at times Valencia. So unless a complete breakdown happens for Valencia and Atletico I can't see much changing here either. I think Germany would need to start producing world class talent on their own for things to change and at the moment it is improving but really top class talent is yet to arrive allthough im hearing good things about Marin.

Inter, Juve and Milan have been trying to buy the best BUndesliga players for some time

I have noticed that Germany have stepped it up and it has been a subject here in Denmark and they talked how clubs started to realise things were bad around 2000 after that Euro. The German U-teams have improved and more talent is appearing but it seems to me that most are not a great level but merely good talents. Like I said except for Marin I haven't heard of any special ones coming through.

as for Bundesliga, you also underestimate the Eastern Europeans
