We've been known to do that in the past. In recent memory, Nesta was a transfer deadline day (or close to that) signing.
I think we will try to go for one of Cannavaro and Zambrotta.

In that case we would have to sign Alves and still only have Oleguer as back up. Not very sound defensively.

I agree. Cannavaro looks the likelier option.

I think Emerson is a good buy, but you rate him very highly.

Here is the latest on Cannavaro:
Milan To Make Last-Minute Cannavaro Swoop?
There are growing rumours in both Italy and Spain that Azzurri skipper Fabio Cannavaro could be sold to AC Milan before the end of the transfer window closes this Friday. The 33-year-old centreback has repeated on many occasions already this summer that he has his heart set on staying at Real Madrid, but according to the latest reports a last-minute transfer cannot be ruled out. Chelsea and Juventus both failed to make much headway in their bid to secure the services of Cannavaro, but AC Milan are said to hold the best cards despite having entered the frame late.Real’s official line is that the World Cup winner and current World Player of the Year is not for sale, but word is that an offer in the region of $10 million could change that stance very quickly.Forza Italia!Forza Milan! wrote:bluenine wrote:I hope not! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Napoli are closing in on the signing of Brazilian striker Nilmar, according to reports in the Italian Press. The 24-year-old impressed at Internacional as a youth player and then signed for French champions Lyon in 2004 for £5m. After a positive spell at the Stade Gerland, Nilmar was loaned out to Corinthians as Les Gones had reached their limit of non-EU players. Despite dazzling fans with 31 goals in 55 games in Brazil, the Parana native found himself a free agent when Corinthians were unable to pay his wages and had to release him this summer.
Now it seems that the Partenopei are poised to pounce and ex-Vesuviano Antonio Careca believes they could be about to sign a star. “Nilmar is a star striker with great moviment and fantastic quality,” he told Radio Kiss Kiss Naples. “He has proven himself in Brazil for Internacional and Corinthians. “The deal isn’t done yet, but I have been speaking to his agent over the last few days and he said there is definite interest.”
