Inter are a bit of a 2nd team for me and i think they'll be pretty happy with this draw, Moratti and the Inter fans expect European success and Mancini knows he has to deliver on the European stage so it will be a big relief to have an easy draw to get through the group stages.

PSV will be second favourites but i certainly think that CSKA and Fenerbahce will fancy their chances to nick 2nd spot which will make the struggle to get the 2nd place spot an interesting one.

    ok

For Inter, it is important to win the first 3 games and make the group safe... I hope we don't leave it to the last coupla games to qualify, Inter should ensure that the last coupla games can be played with no tension and squad rotation.

It looks easy, but there is no easy team. Like someone said, this is the only group with all champions in it.

With teams such as CSKA or Kiev, you never know what they are up to. They can be terrible or excellent, same as their national side. It can sometimes be tricky to play them.

PSV really have a strong team, even with the loss of Cocu and Alex.

Great midfield talents, very good strike force, a bit thin but decent back.

Post by bluenine Fri Aug 31, 2007 3:39 pm

I think all 3 teams cpould give us problems, and all 3 of them are very tough to beat at home.

I was delighted with the game schedule when I saw that we play in moscow early... believe me, PSV have their work cut out when they go to Moscow in late november - its a very hostile frozen environment, and PSV will do well to get away with even a point.

But to me, the dark horses of thsi group are turkish champions Fenerbache... on their day at home, they are very very difficult to beat... I think they have an excellent chance to progress from this group, coz they will get a lot of points at home. Zico's team have stars like Alex, Carlos, Appiah, Kezman, and a host of brazilians. They have reserved their no 12 jersey for the fans, who are called the 12th man playing, and believe me, thats how it works. Fenerbache can upset both Inter and PSV.

If I have to make a prediction looking at the match schedule, I would say that unless PSV start very very well, they are going out. Their last 3 games are against fenerbache (in turkey), away to CSKA (in middle of winter) and the final one at home against Inter... which means that for sure they wouldn't have qualified by the final round and will face a tough game against Inter to qualify... and if Inter haven't qualified till the last day (which is quite possible in this group), then we have a game on.

Fenerbache and Shaktar were the two teams I wanted to avoid from pot 4, but what happened has happened... there are going to be no easy games.

My Prediction: 1. Inter, 2. Fenerbache.

You overrate Fenerbahce, they have an excellent range of individual talent in especially Alex but they are very inconsistent in Europe and mentally weak. If you get an early goal against them they mentally break easily. Having said that I think Hiddink will give PSV enough insight information to find the winning tactical plan.

I am counting on it!! The easiest of groups to qualify are ones where 2 team win their initial games, hence helping each other to qualify early... if PSV can win their early home games against Fenerbache and CSKA, it will make qualification easier for us.

But something tells me Fenerbache are going to cause both of us problems... ending in the qualification KO game between PSV-Inter on the final matchday. Specially if Appiah stays with them today.

Fenerbahce shouldnt be underestimated. They raped a pretty decent Anderlecht the other day. Besides they have the advantage to have more "home" games. Because of the shitload amount of Turks in every country these days.

Moscow will be very hard to beat at home. Same goes for PSV. I wouldnt be surprised if Inter doesnt make it to the next round.

Samuel is back to full fitness it seems. So Inter will field two defenders in the position rather than makeshift defense.

Inter should come back with a draw.

    I have a solution:

Give Recoba a raise at Torino.

    Then buy 6 more midfielders.

Then get Guido Rossi to work his magic and increase the second round to 17 teams.

Then trade Zanetti for Zaccardo (like R. Carlos for Pistone).

    Finally, sell us Adriano.

Full credit to Fenerbache. They were magnificient!! They outplayed Inter in every department, and fully deserve the victory.

Inter, we played like $h!t. 8 players missing is no excuse for a performance like this. There is no excuse. This was pathetic, totally limp performance. We have just made this group incredibly tough for ourselves.

Mancio, I totally fail to understand why Crespo did not start. It is beyond me. Words fail me when I think of the way we played. If we don't qualify from this group, then I don't care about continuity or the good work you have done, you should be sacked. Better get your act together, you have 5 games.

In all seriousness, this was wretched but Turkey is a hard place to play in.

With that said, Mancini is not the kind of coach who can instill a winning mentality in his team notwithstanding your run last year. I am talking about knockout formats, where everything comes down to 90 minutes, more or less.

You have a fantastic squad, and like I said though I am laughing at Inter today, I want them to go as far as possible (for calcio).

Shocking thing is that Mancio is actually supposed to be very good at KO formats. He won like 5 coppas as a player and 5 as a coach or something liek that!! But somehow we seem to have one too many $h!t nights in europe with him...

Also this season (perhaps coz of the injuries), our team looks anything but solid so far.... at the mo, we seem only capable of beating poor teams in Italy or in europe... any team which performs well will beat us. Hope this changes soon, and we get our mentality of last season.

    * read possible as until you meet Milan. Smile

The only bright aspect being that rookie Nelson "Mike Tyson" Rivas put on a creditable performance! Our makeshift defence that we were so worried about did an ok job, it was our stars who failed to deliver. Biggest culprit was Stankovic, who was $h!t. And Solari was non-existant, why did he start?? Ibra, Suazo, Dacourt, and Maxwell were below par too.

The only players who come out with some credit are Julio Cesar (who had a good game) and Cambiasso/Zanetti/Rivas and the subs (Jimenez/Figo) who did decent.
