    Post by 72-76-80-96-08 Sun Aug 27, 2006 9:06 pm

Werder Bremen's replacement for Micoud, their former midfield general, is a Brazilian called Diego who has already impressed in his first games

after two matches he had already notched up a goal and 4 assists

problem is that the other players are getting slightly fed up with his kind of game and voicing their concerns in no uncertains terms

Frings publicly bemoans that Diego is not doing enough DEFENSIVELY; despite the Brazilians being an AMC

Klose joins the chorus of disapproval : "Diego has to learn that he is not alone on the pitch", the old "football is a team-sport--way of thinking" getting the better of the German stars

remember, Diego has only three Bundesliga games under his belt and already his team-mates demand more discipline and less selfish behaviour

Rooney and Gerrard would be put into their place in no time as well

maybe that's exactly what English football needs: all LIONS should at some stage ply their trade in the Bundesliga as a sort of apprenticeship; that way the country would not merely have one player of international class, but 11

Rooney recently said he would not be leaving Manchester United anytime soon ... so a move to the Bundesliga is off then (if there was any such move..)

And Steven Gerrard is Mr Liverpool..

If you havent noticed but Rooney and Gerrard are two English players with quite a bit of work rate.
Have you not seen Gerrard running at opposition box or tracking back to defend his own.(Same with Rooney )

Also plenty of Premiership imports are criticized for not tackling back/playing a physical game.

    Otto, poor.

Rooney is one of the most defensively sound attackers in the world!!! Yikes

I don't know how you got the opinion that he doesn't put in defensive work Doh

And how are you feeling now that Hargreaves looks set to join Man Utd after the whole 'he won't leave Bayern becasue they're such a great non-selling club' spiel? Wink

Even Otto himself once said that Rooney spent far too much time defending to be a strong attacking influence on the game. Saying something like - if he's tracking back as a leftback, how can he affect the game as a forward - something I agree with.

If he's tracking a leftback then the opposition have the ball, so as a forward he's useless if he doesn't. These days, if a forward doesn't track the opposition when they've got the ball then they're not doing their job properly.

Rooney would be a good player in a 'Total Football' side - Cruijff rates him very highly (only needs to be disciplined).

    - he warned Wayne Rooney if he wants to be a world beater he has to do it on and off the pitch.....

    everybody playing dumb, heh ??

nobody questions Rooney' or Gerrard's workrate or, in the case of Wayne, his willingness to help defensively

    that's not the gist of Klose's , Fring's point

both players believe that footballers have to be disciplined and do what their role requires within the context of teamwork; they would publicly tick off Rooney for wanting to be a defender as well and Gerrard's headless chicken routine would have him in the doghouse after a few minutes

during the World Cup there were two interesting instances

Ballack's press conference where he effectively changed the entire tactics of the Nationalmannschaft because Klinsi and Loew could not hack it; at the same time he PUBLICILY criticised Frings for neglecting his defensive responsibilities; he could have done the same to Lampard/Gerrard/Becks/Rooney/J.Cole

then Klose PUBLICLY folded Podolski because the Cologne youngster was not pulling his weight; Poldi then had to fend off a media avalanche and explain himself; Klose was nice though and would work FOR Poldi to help him break his luck, creating TWO assists for him against Sweden; would have been nice if Becks/Gerrard/Lampard would have done anything for Rooney, either by waking him up at a press conference or linking up with him on the pitch

simple truth is that English players would be slaughtered publicly by German footballers in the Bundesliga and ultimatively also the media and fans; to this day Dortmund fans think Odonkor lacks end-product and say so without reservation

English players will never become international class let alone world class without being exposed to the harsh realities of competitive football

I have not seen enough of Klaas, but if he is half as good as you Dutchies are saying "why not?"

he is too inexperienced for HSV though, a team that has already the lowest average age of any Bundesliga side. They don't need potential but pedigree/experience

van Bommel at Bayern worries me as well. I don't think he is good enough. Have seen him in a few La Liga games, the CL and the World Cup and unless he steps up a few gears he is going to end up like a Makaay :a heavy weight dragging Bayern down

Bayern should have gone for Riquelme , really

Ballack is certainly a better penalty taker than Lampard, by miles

but Flumps is English and therefore one of only two who can keep up the impression that English players are somewhat important at Chelsea

    it won't change

I still cannot see Lampard and Ballack playing alongside each other at the top level; they cancel each other out; very strange

Cristiano Ronaldo is twice the player of Ballack. Ballack needs to rely on players around him to be world class In the 2002WC was at his best and like Lamps was the go to midfield guy. Ronaldo is not WC yet but can open up many more locks with his indivdual skill.....Ballack will have to show his individual brillance in the EPL this year lets see how he fairs.
