Listen Rio isn't World Class IMHO,but he's still England's best centre half just because i say a player isn't World Class it doesn't mean he is no good i am just saying this because i really feel the term WC is used too much without care.

Re: Top ten left wingers in the EPL?
I know Rio Ferdinand used to be WC but is still England's top defender.
Steven Gerrard a very good player maybe EC but never WC and as for
Fernando Torres i watched his games since he was 16 up to now so i know alot on this subject unlike a few Liverpool fans on here who think Torres is WC based on half a season in EPL oh dear .

EMPortuguese wrote:Top five?,wow you are not even joking when you say that!.(do u mean currently?)
Nani has done more than Etherington in Football but i see his name pop up on this thread so Pele please explain that one for me.
Far from joking. You forget that Rio was part of the Leeds side that reached the CL semi finals, UEFA cup semi finals, infact he scored against Deportivo in the CL quarter finals in 2001,
2002 - part of the best defensive record at the World Cup, put on a World Class display against argentina in particular- totally marked Batistuta and then Crespo out of the game
For Manchester United he has been class, year-in-year out . Ask any Man United supporter.
For England, he has consistently been our best player against the top teams. Your Portugal side in 2006 should know how much of a rock he was in that WC despite the rest of the team being pretty much average.
His rare moments of lapses are exactly that - rare.
There is not, in my opinion, 5 better centrebacks in World Football over the last 7 years.
You can argue that, as Im sure you will, but I wont listen.
And yes, Nani >>>>>>> Etherington in every department, but he has a long way to go to convince me still he's the top left sided midfielder in England; he's still very hit and miss, and needs time to settle before you start hyping him to the Gods.

What do you mean he "used" to be? He's never been better than he is now.

Re: Top ten left wingers in the EPL?
Pele naming Nani in the top ten wingers list in the EPL isn't hyping you don't see me calling he World Class this and that.
IMHO Nani is better than Lennon already in terms of ability if you don't see it you will soon enough.
As for Rio top ten yes but top five no(Nesta,Cannavaro,Thuram,Ayala,Carvalho) before u dispute or discard Carvalho why is it these players get rated highly after they are seen in EPL?

Re: Top ten left wingers in the EPL?
Getting back on topic , lets talk about typical LW or players who just play LW , its confusing though because player like Nani, Ronaldo , Rosicky ,Arteta can play both sides.
1. Arteta (considering he plays LW mostly for them)
2. Joe Cole
3. Petrov
4. Ashley Young
5. Ryan Giggs
6. MGP
7. Rosicky
8. N Zogbia
9. Nani(first season in the league too early to judge)
10. Downing
Definately missing someone.

Re: Top ten left wingers in the EPL?
Not sure on comparing Nani and Lennon - they both bring something very different to the team. Lennon will never be able to strike the ball as well as Nani, but he has some pretty devastating physical attributes.
In the longer term Nani will undoubtedly develop into the better footballer, but for now, I'd say they're about level.

So Rio used to be world class, however these young players above I guess are the new batch of WC defenders.
My head hurts.

All it really shows is you have no idea what you are talking about
If we are including Thuram in this list can we also include Bobby Moore

I would say yeah and to me he is a bigger threat then Agbonlahor for Villa , he definately must be given a chance with the national squad.EMPortuguese wrote:@Dark Has Ashley Young done that well in the EPL?

Not really. Young is one of the best crossers in the league and is far more effective from deeper positions. Not to say Agbonlahor is weak in these respects, but he ain't as good as Young from what I've seen.
