Re: UEFA Cup draw
That confused me at first, too. I said to my friend that, since Novo had no chance of winning a header, and their defence tends to lose possession when distributing the ball from the back, that Walter Smith might have instructed McGregor to knock it out of play as far up Werder’s half as possible in order to allow Rangers' defence to reorganise itself for another onslaught. I don’t think it was accidental.

Re: UEFA Cup draw
I'm assuming Rangers can play some football, they are first in their league and are forced to take the game to their opponents in Scotland... just like Sporting in Portugal.
Whatever, it doesn't really matter what's said here or anywhere else... we'll see after the two matches. By no means however am I about to say we have no chance against Rangers...even Boavista took a high flying Celtic to the last minute.

Ouch. I'm sorry you feel that way.. hopefully you're wrong... and the way things usually go with the Uefa cup (and Italians) you prob will be (nothing personal).
I put £50 on Fiorentina winning the cup a month ago. So hopefully they'll do it for me and Italian football.
Don't worry I know how you feel about people thinking it'll be a walkover because your team and players are less well known than the opposition. I was watching ITV and they were already talking about who Man Utd would meet in the SF, completely disregarding Roma.
I like Sporting a lot, I think their performances were better than Roma in the group stages and perhaps deserved to make it ahead of us. I always play as them in Fifa and generally do a pretty damn good job, combining beautiful Football with results.
Good Luck.

I hope Fiorentina win or at least get to the final. They should since they have Vieri and Montolivo
Sporting have struggled a bit in the league, but i agree, they've been impressive in Europe.
And typical Roma fan, still stuck in the dark ages playing Fifa!

Yea, the funny thing about that is that there's always two sides to it... it's not like Bolton get much respect in Portugal for ex. while in England the idea is we're weaker than the relegation battellers. Rangers may be resected as a club, but it's not like anyone knows who plays there... point being just because your media is hyping your club up while bashing the opposition doesn't really mean much as the same is true on the flip side.
While Sporting looked like they had more drive than Roma in the gs Roma was a very precise squad and took their chances clinically... that marked the difference between us... we just lacked the thicker skin and experience that Roma had despite not playing quite so well. In the end Roma's gotten farther than I believe Sporting would've and that's just the way football is... there's no reason they can't play toe-to-toe against Utd.. they have to at this level and stage. Roma has the beliefe that comes with being a big Italian club and I don't think that should be underestimated.. it should be an interesting 1/4 final matchup between these two clubs.
btw, if it's up to Sporting to stop Fior to reach the finals I think your bet will have a greater chance of coming good.

I think Getafe are the toughest draw for us, especially since we're playing at home first. I have tremendous respect for them and I think Bayern really have to pull it together (on and off the pitch) if they don't want to become their latest victim.

Re: UEFA Cup draw
Sporting has the best attack at home in the league... let's see how Rangers deals with that... as I've heard they don't travel very well.
I realise Sporting doesn't travel well... but if we can get a positive result in Glasgow, either win or a goal scoring draw, I think we'll be on our way to the semis.
Liedson back amongst the goals, Yannick back with a goal after being out of the side for 4 months, Moutinho in a goal scoring mood, Pereirinha in confident form... Vuk flying high.. Sporting's season might be shapping up for a good finish.

That's going to be a really dull game, Rangers parking the bus against a mediocre Portuguese team.

Mentally we've been shakey... but they've been able to soak up large amounts of pressure alright... they don't exactly bend over or anything.
It's just this up-down season that's taken some of the confidence away at times... making play more complicated than it really needs to be.
This match at Ibrox could be a real test of fire

Haha! Well that is true. But I will hopefully watch it with my friend who is a massive fan of Rangers. He's never known European success with his team. So, for his sake, it will be good if Rangers triumph.
