Been a lot of hype, a lot of suckers for the hype, but the cycle goes on and on.

The new Maradona or the next big thing, there's always an incredible Argie around the corner according to some.

Try to recall a list and see how many there actually has been.

    I'll start it off.

    1. BOY that ARGIE was overated thread! E_D'alessandro_vt

Andrés D'Alessandro. The new this the new that, the new Zidane etc etc etc etc etc. Never quite took off in the end and now is jumping from la liga club to la liga club not really making an impact anywhere. A decent player but no more use than a Patrick Berger or a Mendieta

    Carlos Marinelli.

He was actually a really good player to watch, just a horrible attitude. Fans were on his back from the beginning though..being the new Maradona is hard work. Is now tearing up the MLS with Kanzas City Wizards.

    3. The answer to England's left side problem or a fat Ali G? You decide.

After watching a video of his father, Juan Ramón Verón, scoring against United in the 1968 World Club Championship at Old Trafford for Estudiantes Sir Aled Fergusoon spend a modest $77m on the former model.

Touted as the new Viera it became immediately apparent that he was not fit to clean David Bellion's boots and was flogged to fellow struggler's Chelsea where he unfortunately died.

When was D'Alessandro dubbed the new Zidane? And Mendieta was one of the best midfielders in the Europe for a while.

    Anyway...

    4. BOY that ARGIE was overated thread! 106615

Leandro Romagnoli. Was dubbed the new Maradona, but has just ended up being a slighltly above average player at a decent team. Doesn't really have the physique to do well in Europe.

I always found these overrated Argies were pretty useful in Championship Manager. Part of the reason they were overrated was because they were so good on games like these. Remember Cavenaghi? he used to get me 30+ goals a season yet all see that he is just an average striker now.

I don’t think that Argentines are over rated and usually like them very much, but I do have a list of players that I thought would fare better in Europe.

    8. Guillermo 'Poor Man's Vladimir Smicer' Barros Schelotto

BOY that ARGIE was overated thread! 3742

Like every Argentine footballer never to play in Europe, Guillermo Barros Schelotto was the best Argentinian footballer never to play in Europe. Best known as the twin brother of Gustavo Barros Schelotto who did play in Europe and was shite, Guillermo Barros Schelotto now plays for MLS hot shots Columbus Crew.

    ok

Cavenaghi and Cisse were awesome for me in the 2004 game, you could get Cavenaghi, Robinho, Diego and some change for a shilling. Even better was the early games when Maradona and Gascoigne retired they came back as 16 year olds. Oh the spooge.

Indeed Juligen Saviola is another championship manager one

BOY that ARGIE was overated thread! 103e344saviola130p

Actually won me many titles back in 2001, but despite playing for barca, real madrid and being involved in that great world cup goal. Turned out to be pretty much rubbish. Probably the 5th choice Real Madrid striker and they only have 4.

Verdict - Overated in the extreme. Do we blame championship manager or Callidads of this world? does Callidad work for championship manager? maybe we'll never know

In his last season at Valencia he was hospitalised with a meningitis scare. Remarkable he plays at all after that. Always liked him. Very talented player, although Ranieri used to complain that he only showed up every third game. Great player when he did and very nice guy. Once was at a training session at Valencia. He was driving off when some fans asked him for a photo and autograph. He reversed his car into position for their shot, posed for photos and signed autographs before driving off. <Ale>

Aimar actually started his career in Europe very well, Valencia was doing great, they won a Liga, which if you think that Barca and Real dominates, is not that easy and I thought that he was going to be a World Champion with Argentina in 2002.
Then after Benitez left he got some wealth problems he never was the same.
