Re: Arsenal FC Summer 2008 Thread
Mourinho is Inter bound and will probably take Quaresma as one of his signings for this summer. Originally Mancini was very keen on him, but now he has left so Inter's interest has probably ended.Barca enter Hleb hunt
The Catalan giants are keen to implement a summer rebuilding programme at Camp Nou having endured a disappointing 2007/08 campaign.
They have already completed a deal to take Gerard Pique back to Spain from Manchester United, while also agreeing to buy Seydou Keita out of his contract at Sevilla.
Barca finished last season 18 points behind eventual champions Real Madrid, and a third place finish represented their worse league campaign for five years.
It was thought that Belarus international Hleb would be on his way to arch rivals Real this summer, but Barca have now signalled their intent to hijack any such move.
The club's sporting director Txiki Bergiristain was in Germany on Wednesday to see the playmaker represent his country, and is thought to have held discussions with the player and his agent after the game.
Hleb has spent the last three seasons with Arsenal, but with nothing to show for his time at Emirates Stadium he is keen to take on a new challenge elsewhere.

Real Madrid and Barcelona obviously see a lot in him to want him. Personally I would let him go for anything above £12m.
Btw Fabianski started for Poland last night. World Soccer magazine hailed him as the "most talented Polish keeper of his generation".
I think we need to accept that the only goalkeeper we will bring in will be either a 16 year old for the reserves (like we did with Mannone) or an old veteran who is prepared to be third choice (see Mart Poom).

Who do you expect to be first choice next year then?
Still desperate for Gomez to be honest, watching some highlights of PSV today - he's such an astute keeper.

Rotated between Almunia and Fabianski like the 2001/2002 season when we rotated Seaman and Wright (+ Taylor) due to various factors.
I just can't see us paying £12m for a stopper like Gomes.

Van Persie reckons Arsenal need to spend more money on wages.
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/article1219582.ece
However, according to this BBC news story which has last season's figures, Arsenal were already spending more than everyone in the league except Chelsea and Man U, and were only just behind Man U.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7424134.stm
Looks like Wenger's reputation for being a master of the football economy is poorly founded. And Van Persie's claims (assuming the Sun hasn't just made this up completely) irrelevant. Man U have shown that you can win the league and CL on roughly Arsenal's wage budget.
What this actually demonstrates is that Arsenal are overpaying their overhyped youngsters despite their repeated failure to win even a single trophy in three years, and that Wenger's policy of 'buy every promising teenager you can' isn't producing the results many claim it has.

ROBIN VAN PERSIE says Arsenal must scrap their wage structure or risk a massive summer exodus.
The Dutch striker fears Gunners stars are being short-changed.
Top Chelsea and Manchester United stars get £130,000-a-week, while Arsenal’s top earner William Gallas is on £80,000.
With Mathieu Flamini already at AC Milan, Van Persie admitted: “Arsenal won’t pay enormous amounts but should go to a higher level.
“If a player can earn four times as much at another club, I can understand why he’d go elsewhere.”

Just coming in on the wires...Nasri's first comments about Arsenal
Samir Nasri tonight confirmed to French radio station RTL that his transfer to English giants Arsenal is progressing “normally” and the deal should be concluded over the course of the next few days.
Arsenal appear to be linked with every hot young French talent however it appears that there was substance in the rumours that Nasri's could move to north London.
Nasri's interview with RTL was the first time that he has spoken of his move to the Gunners, who he is “99% certain” of joining in time for the start of next season.

Ade and RVP have a lot of work on their hands to keep Bendtner on the bench for the coming years.
Won't surprise me If he becomes almost undroppable in the next 2 years. The boy oozes class. Shame we can't play a front 3 of Ade--bendtner--RVP

You reckon? I'm tempted to think he's just trying to ruin BM and Hlebadinho's recent attempts at a peace treaty between myself and the Arsenal fans because he can't bear the high number of people who've recently renounced Agoonerism and embraced Saintsology.
On the other hand, he could actually be serious.

Hleb: Arsenal exit talk is nonsense
Alex Hleb insists he's happy at Arsenal, dismissing claims from agents that he wants a move away.
"I have also read [that I have said I want to leave], but I do not know who has written it. That is nonsense," he said on setantasports.com.
"I have also read that I wanted to move because Arsenal would win nothing, this too is nonsense.
"But I would really not like to comment on the issue really because there is nothing more to say, because the club means so much to me.
"I have learned so much from Arsene Wenger. This man has always supported me and given me the chance to come to Arsenal. I would therefore never say anything negative about Arsenal.
"If I'll go, then only in a different league, in any case, in England, there is only Arsenal for me."

He can back this all up by sacking his whore of an agent
But like ronaldo, the last sentence is there to leave his options open
