Very surprising. Didnt see him going to Greece but i expect him to be back in Spain within a few years. From what i have read he has doubled his salery but more important he has been given alot of control over player signings.

Has anyone tried to sign Mane from Almeria yet ? i thought he was great at left back this season and expect some teams to sniff around him.

    Laudrup to Panathinaikos is confirmed.

Villarreal and Sevilla have been linked with Mane but he's still an Almeria player.

Yes, Butrón knew the scouts from Valencia, Almería, and Hercules were watching him closely. Good for him that he was one of the four MOTM along with Villa, Iniesta, and Guerrero. <Ale>

With the Ujfalusi and Hetinga acquisitions, looks like Atlético might just become a serious contender in Spain. Anyone here thinks that they might regain their position as the 3rd big club from La Liga now? That will be so good for Spanish football, and with their history and following Atlético could maintain a top side.

I hope to see a serious challenge from them in La Liga next season, and a good showing in the CL.

    Laughing

They've been making good signings "on paper" for the past 2-3 seasons, only for things to fall apart when the season actually gets underway. They're already the 3rd biggest in terms of ability to spend on transfers...expect Valencia to be low-key for the next few seasons.

Jury's still out on Atletico, let's see how they manage next year with the CL also going on.

Cant argue with that. i do think that if a club comes in and makes a bid for him Zaragoza would take allthough im not sure they actually money. he would be smart to stay in spain anyway me thinks. Italy and England is a bit to physical for a smal player like him.

They still have a lot of gaps in their squad though. There are question marks about the goalkeeper, their full backs aren't very good, and although Kun and Forland are very good if something happens to them they don't really have suitable replacements. Central midfield should probably be addressed because they really only have Raul Garcia and Camacho.

I'm not convinced by Atleti atm. They leak too many goals, and I'm not sure the purchase of Heitinga will help that; from the limited number of times I've seen him, I've not been impressed. Apparently Ujfalusi is highly regarded, so maybe he'll help.

Think they lack creativity through the middle as well, though hopefully Miguel might get a chance in that role.

But, as a team I feel they are heavily reliant on Aguero. If he has a poor game/doesn't play well, they look a bit lost. They'll definitely need a decent third striker to rotate with him and Forlan.

I hope they'll do well in the CL next year, but I wouldn't put it past them getting knocked out in the qualifying round

When i come to think of it, its surprising how many weak points they have in their team.
Heitinga will play Cb and if Ujfalusi is to continue his place from Fiorentina he will play Rb i gues. hope they make a buy or two more this summer. Camacho seemed like he was a good talent but they still have the same problems i have seen in the last couple of years which is no creativity in the midfield. not sure Atletico can afford this because they will have to 4-5 players imo and if i remember correctly they want to move stadiums aswell.this doesnt seem stable especially when you consider their record of buying players. Monchi could do well for them.

Ujfalusi is very dependable, and can play CB or RB well. He and Hetinga might help make their defence more solid. IMO Ujfalusi is one of the most under rated defenders in Europe, he is real class.

I know Atletico have been underperforming in recent years, but last season they looked like getting some shape together. Another good transfer campaign might give them the final boost required to challenge Barca and Real.
