Wonderful. I really hope it happens this summer, and that he'll have more success there. Keep us updated
Well we've been talking to his representitives while he's golfing in Iceland. Some of the sources are saying ovr the weekend/next week. I'm hoping it happens. With all our players fit...we'd have a great squad.

Villa: I Want To Stay At Valencia
David Villa has announced that he hopes to stay at Valencia and help the club back to the top after fans let him know that they did not want him to leave this summer.
The Spain striker joined his Ché and Villarreal international team-mates on the balcony of the Valencia town hall to celebrate their part in Spain's European Championships victory.
Amid chants of 'Villa don't go' the striker explained that he did not want to leave, despite all the interest in him from some of Europe's major clubs.
"I am very grateful and I am very happy here. I hope to stay here. The president should be thanked for wanting to keep the best playres and to make a great team," he explained.
"I have always felt wanted by the fans and I have several years left on my contract and want to see them out."
Club president, Agustín Morera, reiterated that Valencia were prepared to whatever they could to fend off the interested parties after hearing the fans plead for Villa not to be sold.
"I heard it perfectly. We had offers last year, we have had more this year and we continue to receive them. Our plan is to keep him and we will try and do this," he added.
Raúl Albiol has been honoured for his part in Spain's victory after having a street named after him by the Villamarchante council, the town where he was born.

Re: La Liga Summer Transfer Thread

I'm not sure if someone has already mentioned it, but Jonas bought out his contract for 1m using the Webster ruling. Mallorca are looking to sue and rightly so IMO. I think it's bad for the game and particularly for relatively modest clubs such as Mallorca. Shocking from Jonas really.

They've certainly got screwed by the player and Newcastle. The president was very unhappy, and the problem for them is that even with a compensation claim, there's an extra complication because the player was apparently still part-owned by his club in South America. I do feel a bit of sympathy for Mallorca...they're one of the nicer and "harmless" clubs around. Jonas' comments were very cold too - "I don't care about Mallorca and only want to play for Newcastle", or something along those lines.

Re: La Liga Summer Transfer Thread
I'm not sure. I just checked the Webster ruling on Wiki and it only states that players who have signed a contract before the age of 28 AND have been at the club for three years or more are entitled to buy out their contract. So it doesn't seem to mention anything about being 25.
I got the the '25' bit from goal:
Spiderman's Toon Move In Jeopardy
Kevin Keegan's first major signing of the summer is in danger of getting caught up in a hopeless tangle with the news that Real Mallorca are ready to take legal action against Jonas 'Spiderman' Gutierrez.
The Argentine winger signed a five-year deal with Newcastle earlier in the week, but only after using FIFA’s controversial article 17 rule, which allows players who are over 25 to buy out their contract if they have been with the same club for three or more years.
Mallorca's statements on the matter were stern to vague, and their case appears to be based on the fact that Gutierrez isn't actually 25 until this Saturday.
"We are unhappy with the attitude of Jonas Gutierrez and we will pursue this as a complaint," fumed Mallorca sports director Nando Pons
"We have claimed €12m (£9.5m) for the unilateral termination of the contract 'without just cause'. Mallorca will defend their interests.''
"This case has only just begun," warned club president Vicente Grande. "We will not be quiet and nobody is going to take us for fools. We at least want the €10m that Portsmouth offered us in the winter."

Re: La Liga Summer Transfer Thread
So what is the situation? The rules seem a little unclear and untested. Certainly, there is the facility for a player leaving a club and essentially breaking contract, after three years of a contract if under 28, after two years if over 28. Apparently the club is due some compensation if a player does break contract in such a way, but that compensation is based primarily on the player's outstanding salary. The transfer fee the club paid for the player and his future 'earning potential' may also be considered (this isn't clear in general, and 'earning potential' seems particularly ambiguous - I'm not sure that it correlates with what a club might have expected to sell the player for).
Fifa doesn't like players moving like this. In the Webster case, they argued that he'd broken his contract without just cause since he and his agent didn't inform Hearts of his intention to leave until too late. Hearts had set a £5 million valuation on Webster; Fifa set the compensation they were due at £625,000; but this was eventually reduced by the Court of Arbitration for Sport to just £150,000.
Basically, Gutierrez doesn't seem to have done anything wrong, technically at least, given that he had spent three years at Mallorca. He may not have acted particularly nicely, or with due respect to Mallorca - but then, if they are in financial difficulties, perhaps he worried that they'd price him out of a move or that they'd only sell him to the highest bidder. Whatever, I don't know how much he was on, and I don't know what we've already paid in order to help him pay off his contract - but I imagine that Mallorca will have no hope of getting £8 million compensation for him.

Yeah, like I say, I don't think they have a hope of getting that. I think it's irrelevant what Portsmouth offered them - I don't think the club's (or anybody else's) valuation of the player comes into things much.

Then they're mental. They're only entitled to however much was left on his contract. I'm still wondering why they think they have any chance, as far as i can see what he has done is legit, whether they like it or not.

Re: La Liga Summer Transfer Thread
I don't know, there seem to be various aspects of the ruling that, like I say, are unclear or untested or negotiable.
For a start, for a breach in contract to be permitted, a player must give his club notice that he intends to leave within 15 days of the end of the season (i.e. within 15 days of the club's last fixture). I don't know if Gutierrez did this, but I can find articles from late May in which he says that he's going to leave the club, and his tone suggests that the club was aware of this by this point.
Reading a bit further, again, though any compensation the club is due relates mainly to the player's outstanding wages, the amount the club initially paid for a player can also be important (in theory, according to the Independent, compensation must include a pro rata amount towards the player's initial cost - so if you buy a player on a four year contract for £6 million and he leaves after three years, you're due £1.5 million). If the issue goes to a panel, they might look at other factors too - there is no absolute formula for determining what compensation a club is due.
So I don't know if there's any issue regarding Gutierrez revealing his intentions early enough - if there is, we could have some problems, the amount of compensation Mallorca are entitled to might increase. And regardless, Mallorca may feel that, if they question the move and take it to a panel, they might win a bit more in compensation. But I think it will be a couple of million at the most.

What do people make of Villarreal's transfer campaign and how do you think they will lineup next season?
---------------Lopez
Venta--Gonzalo--Godin--Capdevila
???-----Senna--Josico?---Cazorla
---------Nihat---Rossi?-------
I'm not sure on the Ibagaza move; he's quite talented but is very leggy, slow and rarely finishes games. I'm not sure he offers anything different to the likes of Pires & Mati. I've never heard of this Escudero kid either, so can't really comment on him.
As for the strikers, well I hear Altidore is talented and maybe an eventual replacement for Nihat, but so far I'm of the belief that none of the signings are obvious starters/or improvements to the first XI. Evidently they're strengthening the squad, but I think they need to improve the first 11 too.
Then again who am I to argue doubt Pellegrini
