This guy signed from the Spanish third division. I doubt he had to think about it for too long. I wasn't earning £50-75,000 a year at 18.
Right, but I think Liverpool's youth system is more about making money than supplying the first team with players

do you?
well maybe. Maybe not. But making money also supplies the fist team with players. I think it would be stupid to expect that Liverpool's first team in 7 or 8 years will comprise entirely of these kids signed the past 2 seasons, but what it does mean is if a youngster is on the fringes of the first XI, an established squad rotation player can be sold. See Plessis last season allowing Sissoko to be sold. Nemeth and Pacheco's emergence means despite losing Crouch, Kewell and probably Voronin, there will only be one attacking signing this summer. It's much more to do with saving the £6m here and there on squad players as it is to do with a Wenger-esq team of kids. If one of them becomes world class it's a massive bonus.

Re: Liverpool Football Club 08/09
We need a back up striker for Torres and someone who preferably is big, strong, quick and can play as a lone striker so signing N'gog makes some sense.
I just hope Nemeth gets an equal crack at the first team this season though.
BTW N'Gog will be revealed at the press conference tomorrow with Robbie Keane. You heard it here first . . . and last

Yep but we need him more out wide cause of the lack of other options in the wide positions.
Babel is an option but if anything I think he'll have another season out wide before any thought will be given to move him more in the middle.
I think as well or more I hope Rafa doesn't see the need or Voronin anymore and so obviosuly thats another reason why he was signed.
Torres, Keane, Nemeth and N'Gog is perhaps the future.

No, he was a great right-back but the Guillan-Barre and the fact that he's 35 mean that he's not really a realistic option for us to sign as a striker.
Ryan Babel might be able to but he doesn't score enough goals imho.

Babel is a bit like Heskey mark 2 - he has everything a striker needs, pace, height, strength and trickery - except the ability to score goals.
I think he is better off in a wide position where he can create chances by beating a man rather than centrally where he would have to play with his back to goal sometimes.

Ngog is a quality signing, i have heard some french journalist say he is going to be the new Anelka.
In a few years time you are probably gonna have clubs like Real Madrid wanting to sign him for around £21m.
A smart piece of business by Benitez to sign him now.

Excellent, we can add him to 'the new Zidane' and 'the new Vieira'.
Cheers for jinxing it Batman
seriously - £1.5 for a 19-year-old suggests he might be a decent squad player at some point.

Re: Liverpool Football Club 08/09
PACHECO: I'D LOVE TO PARTNER TORRES
Daniel Pacheco admits he dreams of one day forming an all-Spanish strike partnership with Fernando Torres.
The 17-year-old forward, who caught the eye during the club's pre-season trip to Switzerland, can't wait for El Nino to return to training tomorrow and is hoping he will get the chance to lead the line alongside his country's Euro 2008 hero when the Reds face Villarreal next week.
"I would love to play with Torres because he is such a great striker and it would be very special for me to be in the team with him," said Pacheco.
"He is Spanish also and he is a big hero for everyone in my country after he scored the winning goal in the Euro 2008 final.
"He is one of the best strikers around so I think I would learn a lot from him if I played in the team with him.
"I would have loved to have played in the team with Stevie as well but he had to go back to Liverpool because he had an injury.
"But I have really enjoyed playing alongside the other first team players and they have really helped me.
"I'm really happy to be playing with these players and to be involved during pre-season and until the boss tells me otherwise I will keep on playing and enjoying myself."
Pacheco admits that life in the first team has been a huge step up from the reserves and while he accepts he is well down the pecking order when it comes to Rafael Benitez's first-choice starting XI, he insists he will not let anyone down if called upon.
"Everything is different to the football I have been playing in the reserve team," he said the Malaga-born youngster.
"It is more competitive, faster, more difficult and you have to work harder but I am trying my best and now I just have to keep going.
"I don't know if I will still be in the team when the season starts though because that would be very difficult for me.
"The Spanish players have come back now and we will maybe have some new players as well so it would be tough for me to stay in the team.
"But I will continue to work hard every day and keep on going.
"I feel that I am playing quite well and that things are going well for me but, as I say, I cannot afford to stop working because that is the most important thing."

FANS BACK PACHECO TO MAKE STEP UP
Liverpool fans believe Daniel Pacheco is the reserve player most likely to become a first-team regular at Anfield over the coming seasons.
The teenage playmaker has made quite an impression during pre-season, most notably his fantastic assist to Lucas in the victory over Lucerne.
The 17-year-old, who arrived from Barcelona 12 months ago, was backed by 34 per cent of fans who took part in our vote.
Krisztian Nemeth, who top-scored for the treble-winning reserves last term, was also heavily backed to carve out a career at Anfield with 29 per cent.
Close behind was left-back Emiliano Insua, whose performances during five senior games persuaded 27 per cent of Kopites to vote in his favour.
Scouse duo Stephen Darby and Jay Spearing, who were both praised by Jamie Carragher on .tv this week, also had their fair share of fans.

Our future No.10 ? Can he actually make the break through this season ?

If we go into the new season with Keane, Torres, Kuyt and Ngog as our striker options instead of Crouch, Torres, Kuyt and Voronin i'll be pretty damn happy. Still we need a winger though, I saw an interview with Quaresma yesterday and he stated we were in talks but didn't follow through, quite gutted, him and Keane and we'd certainly be closer to the title. If we don't sign Keane or Barry (quite unlikely but possible) then I will be quite worried for this season as I can't see where we will have improved.

Well we bought him off MSI for £17million and own 100% of his contract, so I don't see how that would work

I think Ade was talking more about his squad number being 10, ie in the first XI rather than him being the next Pele.

ok the article say teenage playmaker, and that surprised me because all rafa would be doing his wasting his talents, it was widely agreed that he was 2nd only to Bojan is the striking department in the entire youth system, which was the reason why he left, as they are so close in age and bojan had already gotten the nodd ahead of him.

England and Liverpool football player Steven Gerrard has been awarded an honorary fellowship by a Liverpool university.
The 28-year-old, who was awarded the MBE in 2007, was given the honour by Liverpool John Moores University.
It was given to mark the Anfield club captain's contribution to sport.
Gerrard, who said he was proud to receive the honour, had his fellowship conferred during a graduation ceremony at the city's Anglican Cathedral.
Speaking earlier, Liverpool John Moores University's (LJMU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Michael Brown said they were "delighted" to welcome him to the unviersity family.
"Steven epitomises the university philosophy of dream, plan, achieve," he said.
"As a young boy he excelled in the sport he loves and ensured his talent was recognised, looking upon challenges as opportunities and pursuing each available avenue.
"As a result he has become one of the best sportsmen in the country, if not the world, with a reputation for integrity both on and off the pitch.
"As a prominent sporting figure and a son of the city, it is fitting that LJMU, an international leader in sports and exercise science and a major contributor to Liverpool's success and growth, should award Steven with this honorary fellowship."

I find that to be the weirdest thing about this forum. It doesn't matter what the truth actually is, what is important is how it is perceived here. After the match in an interview Gattuso himself said he caught Gerrard and was worried about being sent off. He has done other dives but everyone goes to that one, where he didn't actually dive:doh:
