Ljungberg can probably get one more big payday in the MLS before his body finally gives up on him.

Making 30 appearances is hardly being a crock...

He's been released because of family issues. He wants to stay in Sweden. Ljungberg has accepted a loyalty payment of just £1m...in order to leave and stay in Sweden with his family. Curbishley thought he was coming back. Ljungberg will most probably now retire to stay with his family/accept a deal where he can start to play later this year.

Or £6m, depending on what you read.

It would've cost £6m had Ljungberg wanted to stay...however he accepted a £1m payment (a loyalty bonus) to stay in Sweden with his family.

Why does he get a loyalty bonus?
Surely the clubs says come back and play or you're fired.
seems very dodgy

Ljungberg was granted time off by the club...but we still wanted to keep him. However the time off Ljungberg needs, due to the family issues does not really fit in with our plans for this season. Therefore we mutually agreed to terminate his contract. So it hasn't cost us the full £6m to tear it up...
Tbh, I don't blame Ljungberg for wanting the time off...it's pretty important that he's with his family atm...I wish him all the best.

You have a PM...
Ljungberg can join on a free transfer with his original contract terms if he decides he wants to come back too...
