Fergie claims Johnson could be signing of the summer

The U*d boss has said the £8.5m Everton signing could score 15 or more goals and be the signing of the summer. (Makes me a bit suprised he didnt go for him himself if he likes him so much following the departure of RVN.

Dont get me wrong i think Johnson is a decent striker but not for £8.5m and there is no way he is the best signing of the summer, even 15 goals wont make him that i doubt.

It's the usual Fergie mind games - basically he's saying that none of Chelsea, Arsenal, or Liverpool's signings are any good.

I don't think even Fergie would have the neck to claim that Carrick was a bargain.

i think johnson was over priced but he looked v sharp v everton keeps that up and he will be a good signing, at least he seems to have a decent attitude seen by the fact he gave palace a season to get out of the championship

Aye to be fair, I was amongst those who criticised Johnson's price tag, but he's looked worth it so far. Can't say anything wrong about him at present.

BSA is one of the best managers in the Prem at getting the best out of natural talent, even if it's been wasted elsewhere: Okocha, Djorkaeff (who hadn't played for two years when he came to us), DIOUF!!!

He always scores fifteen odd a season, so it's a far better buy imo than AJ.

johnson is a far far better buy for everton though and the football they play... the main attribute for everton is the work rate of the team and this is also one of johnsons main attributes individually... he's an excellent signing for them and fergie is right in that respect... possibly could have phrased it better though...

You'll notice that wherever he's been he's scored and played well.
Our team at the moment is all workrate and not enough ability, so I'll be happy if he can bring the overall quality of our game up.

I thought AJ 's price tag was too high , but if he get 15-20 goals then he would be worth it.

The things about Johnson is that £8.5m is a huge amount of money, we brought in 8 players this summer costing under half that amount. For Johnson to justify his value he will need to score around 20 goals and create chances for others.

Tbh in my opinion the Prem is becoming a very competative league as so many clubs are throwing money around and player valuations are going through the roof. Only Watford, Reading, Fulham and City have spent under £6m this summer.

I don't think £8.5m is a 20-goal striker price tag. More like £13-£15M. If he gets 15 goals he'll be OK.

I have always thought that a lot of posters have been overly critical of him on here, I personally think hes a good player
