Man Utd Have The Greatest Attack - Rossi Empty Man Utd Have The Greatest Attack - Rossi

Post by Batman Fri Sep 05, 2008 2:39 pm

Former Juventus star and 1982 World Cup winner Paolo Rossi believes that English and European Champions Manchester United have the greatest attacking line-up in the World.

Man Utd Have The Greatest Attack - Rossi 2731_news

Rossi led La Nazionale to glory in Spain 26 years ago and he believes the arrival of Dimitar Berbatov will be the icing on the cake for the Red Devils.

The Old Trafford side paid Tottenham Hotspur over £30m for the Bulgarian's services as they attempt to go one better than last term and win the treble.

“The Red Devils are ahead of everyone in terms of their attacking line up,” Rossi told La Gazzetta Dello Sport.

“I think Inter are second and Mario Balotelli drives me crazy. Barcelona are the third strongest team in terms of the players they have up front.”

United, Inter and Barcelona all look lethal up front and the trio will be gunning for glory in the Champions League.

The Red Devils were after Berba all summer and it seemed like he wasn't going to join them as Spurs played hardball, but the White Hart Lane based club quickly changed their tune when they caught a whiff of the money.

Rossi’s failure to mention his old side Juve appears to suggest that he is not impressed with the Bianconeri’s attacking line-up, even though they spent over €24m on Amauri.

Do you agree with Rossi that...

    1. Man Utd
    2. Inter Milan
    3. Barcelona

Who in your opinion make up the rest of the top 10?

If Barca attack is in the top 3 then is says something about what direction football is going these days.

I would say Milan attack is the best in Europe if Dinho gets back to even half of his old form and kaka returns to full fitbess.

Could someone tell me how Mourinho's team attack? Feeble, and at most, dormant. No way do they deserve a higher mention. It depends on how you qualify an attack. Roma in Serie A, Werder bremen in bundesliga, Arsenal in PL, Ajax in Eredivise may not have flashy names, but their combination makes it greater than pack of individuals. Even Villareal for that matter works as a unit. Farca hardly in that list...

Depends on what you are looking at... if you look at the players he has at his disposal for his 3 attacking positions, then it is quite formidable:

Ibrahimovic, Adriano, Crespo, Balotelli, Quaresma, Figo, Mancini, Cruz

However, how effective he is in making them gel as a great attacking unit remains to be seen.

Sure, Benzema is there. His combination with Govou, and Fred is superb. And, Pjanic/Juninho to support. That's a great attack, underrated, and underrepresented here!

I'm not interested in individuals, if so, Farca would be higher up the list. Chelsea is the other with drogba, lampard, deco (admitted that he plays a deeper role than lampard, but he is involved just as much in attack), and Joe Cole. But in their own league, they are overshadowed as attacking unit by Arsenal, Spurs, Villa, and Middlesbrough in attack.

" in terms of the players they have up front"

That's really flawed, to say the least.

Their starting 3 attacking players are 28, 26, & 19 years old... two of them are former WPOTYs, and the third is one of the most talented teenagers on the planet - thats hardly "past it"!

Since your attack consists of Rosicky (injured), Eduardo (injured), Nasri (new), Van Rapist (injured), Adebayor (doesn't get on with), Bendtner, Wallchart (not very good), let's talk about the way your team plays as an attacking unit.

The fact that he puts Barcelona in there proves he hasnt seen them in a while or perhaps he forgot they no longer have Ronaldinho.
judging an attacking line shouldnt just be about names but also if it actually clicks. i think when Kaka returns Milan will have the best attack in the world allthough it does depend on whether or not Kaka and Ronaldinho can play together.
