I agree. The guy was lucky to coach a team that couldn't have been in an easier position to win the league for two years while not playing particularly attractive football and always choking in the CL.
He's the obvious choice though.

I think you guys are being a bit too harsh on Mancini... he inherited a club which just did not know how to win anything, having a dysfunction team for far too long, full of highly paid primadonnas and unbalanced as hell.
He then won trophies every season of his tenure, starting with the Coppa. He created one of the best squads in europe, perfectly balanced to implement his 442, with one quality back up for every position, and actually spent less money to do this (per season) than his predecessors.
The Inter of 2006-07 was the strongest Inter team I have seen in 25 years, probbaly the strongest ever. You obviously haven't seen that team play in Serie A if you say Mancio's team was not attractive in its play... sure, they did not attack like Brasil, but they attacked with such confidence and relentless power that it was as attractive as it can get. That team won more points than any team has in the history of Serie A, much much more. Sure, there was no Juve, and Milan has a 8 point penalty. But you only need to read the comments Milan fans before that season started (most were confident that they will overhaul just 8 points easily over the season) and then see the end result (Inter finished 38 points over Milan) to see the impact that team made. 17 consecutive wins, it was the most unbelievable run I have seen in any top league.
When you see Mourinho struggling with that Inter, after spending over 50M on Mancio's squad, only to revert back to Mancio's strategy/formation, then you realise what contribution Mancio made at Inter.
Sure, Mancio did not do well in europe. But in his last 2 seasons in the CL, it was also down to key injuries / red cards, so luck had a big part to play in that.
Mancio has won trophies with all 3 clubs he has coached, overachieved in all of them. Not saying whether he is right for Chelsea or not, but IMO Mancio is good enough for any club on the planet. He instills a winning mentality to his team everytime, and he has improved as a manager every year.

Re: Chelsea sack Scolari!
@bluenine
I think any top coach would have won the league in those years if they were in the situation Mancini was in. Not only was Juve relegated and Milan, Florentina, and Lazio penalized, but Inter managed to snatch Ibrahimovic and Vieira as well as being the only top Italian club worth going to for that season given the mess the other clubs were in. While in the end most clubs ended up getting their point deductions overturned, this was after the season had started, hence making their summer purchases extremely difficult.
And Inter may have broken all sorts of records, but so did Schuster's Real Madrid, and yet you will find few Madrid fans who consider him to be a great coach (even though I think he deserved a lot more credit than given by others for those achievements). Sorry, but I don't see much value in breaking records at a time when every top team in the league is in a big mess. Inter had the chance to prove themselves in the CL against stable opposition, and they fell short every time. That was the real test for me, but Mancini was just unable to outsmart his opposition. It's not that Inter was unfairly eliminated from any of those CLs, despite the injuries/suspensions they may have had.
I also see things more on a relative level. You claim that this was the best Inter side you've ever seen for the past 25 years, but how can you be so sure given the lack of quality from the opposition? Don't you think maybe you failed to see past the fact that Inter's opposition was severely lacking? The following season the opposition wasn't even that much better while Inter kept all their key players, and yet Inter barely managed to win the league in the last day of the league.
I don't have anything against Inter. As far as I'm concerned they deserved to win those leagues since it's not their fault that other teams cheated. But in terms of how great of an achievement it was on Mancini's terms, my opinion differs from yours significantly.

Re: Chelsea sack Scolari!
It looks like, as was the case with Mourinho's dismissal, this is Moneybags' doing. However, for a different reason - Mourinho got on his nerves just once too much, whereas Scolari, by his account, met him for only a few times and didn't even get the chance to rub him up the wrong way. It smacks of a rather panicky reaction at Chelsea's poor form and the prospect of an early exit from Champions League and (real) possibility of not qualifying for the next season's tournament. A lot of it to do with pride, since winning the CL was the reason why Moneybags bought Chelsea in the first place. However it may also be an indication of Moneybags' current financial circumstances that the possibility of losing out on CL TV income may be unacceptable in the short-term, as is being stuck with a non-top four, UEFA Cup playing club that he won't be able to sell at anywhere near the price he would want, in the long-term. (I would think the latter to be more of a driving force as having to pay off Scolari probably equals losing out on CL income anyway)
Sacking the manager at this stage in the season, with each league match a six-pointer and the crucial CL k/o stage coming up, without a replacement on standby, seems hardly credible. However as was the case with Mourinho's dismissal that's what appears to have happened. There possiblity of getting a plausible, top-name replacement for the rest of the season looks remote unless Moneybags can arrange for the Russian mob to kidnap Hiddink, or Mancini can be persuaded take on the job (I suppose he'll cost them). So.....is it going to be Ray Wilkins? or even the return of Uncle Fester?
The moral for Chelsea fans and parts of the dressing room who wanted Scolari out (as I'm sure Terry and Lumpard did): Be careful what you wish for.
ps. I think Scolari will end up going back to his old job with Portugal after Queiroz lose their next WC qualifying match.

Surely if you are going to sack a manager in february then you should just act early and move before the transfer window?
Quaresma gets 1 game under Scolari, what's the point?
