What does everyone think then? I'm sure they'll be a few conflicting views, but will hopefully produce some heatlhy debate.

Is it man of the moment Villa? Or do people still feel that a fit and focused Drogba is a defenders worst nightmare?

Try not to go on about forwards (i.e Ronaldo, Messi etc) - unless you really believe they are strikers!

Some of my mates even believe that there is NO outstanding striker around atm, like Ronaldo, Batistuta, RVN, Shevchenko of yester-year. I don't agree with that though.

    Any opinions?

Good thread, since I read a lot of garbage about Villa being best.

Zlatan is so much superior then Villa its insane.

I think Samuel Eto’o is worth a shout, given what was happening before this season and what people expected of him, didn’t Guardiola have his doubts? – He’s showed that the form of last season was just temporary and class is always permanent.

Villa will only really show just how good he is when he plays for a club like Barcelona where he will, I believe, be even more prolific than Eto'o. IMO, Villa is better than Eto'o and I would love him to replace Eto'o at the end of the season, when I feel he needs to go to refresh the dressing room and fill it with a hungry player like Villa.

I'm guessing we're not counting wing forwards as strikers?

And what about support strikers? For instance, does RVP count?

Villa is the best just at the moment although Eto'o still comes a close second. I do agree that there aren't as many top class goalscorers. There are some outstanding forward players but there doesn't seem to be as many prolific scorers (like you mention Ronaldo, Batistuta, Shevchenko). Maybe has something to do with more and more teams moving to only play with one forward.

If I had to make a top five right now I'd say Villa, Eto'o, Torres, Diego Milito, and Forlan.

But I do think there are some strikers coming up that could be great like Benzema, Higuain, Aguero, Pato.

If you can make a case for RVP to be included then do. RVP currently play's a part of a front two doesn't he, so I think that's reasonable. He's obviously entirely different to a Huntelaar for example however.

But yes, I would include SS's.

To be fair Milito and has been quality this season, and Forlan is a different player to the one that played for Utd. Not sure he's be in my top 5 though.

Are we talking about goalscoring centre forwards because if so then no to most of the ones you list. If you are talking about footballing ability then yes of course Ibrahimovic and Berbatov and van Persie are better.

Pato is close, so is Benzema.

I know Forlan is a completely different player but I think to include him in a world top 5 is a bit extreme.

Do you actually trust Adebayor to consistently score goals? I think Van Persie is better in this regard and I think Ade will prob struggle to get that many goals against as he did last season. Of course you could argue about Torres but he has gotten some goals in La Liga.
Huntelaar is a good goalscorer but we have to see how he does in La Liga.
Forlan I don't see as a great goalscorer because he is quite similar to Rooney in that he tends to his goals in flows.
Milito is one of the few strikers out there right now who I think has that clinical edge to them. Trezeguet/Villa is others and Benzema also seems to have it.
