Well his pace and movement make him a hell of a lot of chances. That's why I think it shouldn't just be based on 'goalscoring' ability - which if we're using FM speak is 'finishing'

Can't remember seeing him miss many for Liverpool but for Atletico he was one of the worst in regards to being clinical. Because he always got chances but he missed so many. It is better now though.

Agree with what you say. So it is should be a chances to goals ratio that decides it.

If its based purely on goals scored then he shouldn't be. If its based on all round game though he definately should. He's got more culture in his right foot than torres has in both.

What part of "At the moment" is so hard to comprehend?

None of the following should be mentioned: Adebayeour, RVP, Huntelaar, Drogba etc. None of them are playing to their best of their abilities.

Right now: (In no particular order): Eto'o, Villa, Forlan, Torres, Zlatan.

how is Henry getting on at Barca this season?

    No one's mentioned Robinho yet.

James Beattie is doing an excellent job at Stoke.

Torres isn't playing well but I haven't seen him missing many chances Tweedle.

RVP has been our best player this season scratch

He'd make about 90% of people's EPLXI for this season.

9 goals, 7 assists. That's about as good an assist/goal record as you'll find.

If you look at his record in the past three seasons in the EPL it reads played 57, scored 27. That's not too far off a goal every other game, which is a pretty damn good record hactually.

3 seasons 57 games... forgive me, that is not excellent reading. Gerrard puts together around 57 games a season.

Kinda sums RVP up, undoubtably talented, every time he puts together a few good performances he gets crocked... Unless hes able to put together a couple of solid seasons together injury free, i simply won't see him in a favourable light, much like Kewell with ourselves.

Eto'o is the probably the most complete striker in the world at the moment.(Drogba isn't as good a finisher and adriano is just not playing well)

he can lead the line, score with very part of his body, and even play the 2nd striker.

Villa is the shit and as someone said he needs to play for a team like barca for very one to see just how good he can be, be would score more goals than eto'o, but couldn't lead the line as well.

Ibra its just amazing the thing he can do, but not as prolific as the other two.

these three are the best, and it just a matter for tease, as to who people think is better.

after that the field isn't that great, they're players like torres/rooney/milito ext who are good, but not in those player class

then the pato's and benzema's who have the talent and are producing, but are not quite there yet.

Villa is better imo because he is good goalscorer and more clinical then Eto imo but most importantly he is quite good both as a striker that makes the runs or as a striker who comes down to build play.
Also I believe that if Rooney was ever to get goals consistently then he would be among those players easily but that is the big question really. He combines the qualities Eto have(strenght+pace) with the ones Villa have(creativity) but he lacks being ruthless infront of goal.

We all hope that Rooney can make the step up. We all know he's capable of it. He's been on fire for England recently. Capello seems to have finally got the best out of him, in an England shirt.

The question was the same one that hovered over Ibrahimovic which is whether or not you can learn to become a good goalscorer(clinical). Ibrahimhovic has shown he can be trusted to be consistent with his scoring since in other seasons he also got several penalties but I don't think he has scored many this season but still kept a good level of goals.

What is most important is that Ferguson gets the most out of him and this is something I have yet to see. What I wonder here is if it's because of Fergusons tactics, which at times have accomodated Ronaldo more then Rooney or if it is simply a case of Rooney not fulfilling his potential.

I wouldn’t say Rooney is not fulfilling his potential, he lacks goals but if you watch the games he does have plenty of chances on goal but the ball doesn’t go in. The only criticism I have of Rooney is he can be too unselfish at times (which is not necessarily a bad thing, but for a forward he maybe judge on goals by some people). If he can strike a balance between unselfishness and selfishness, I believe he can improve as you’ve mentioned he has the attributes to become an even better player and I hope he does. Also some of the tactics Manchester United was playing didn’t help – i.e. him playing out wide (e.g. the Barcelona away game).

    my list:

    1. Villa
    2. Eto'o
    3. Ibrahimovic
    4. RVN
    5. Torres
    6. Aguero
    7. Berbatov
    8. Drogba
    9. Benzema
    10. Rooney

it's a bit of a mix between current and medium term form. On current form alone, Henry would be in there somewhere as well.

It IS funny Anelka isn't considered by anyone, yet is the top scorer in Europe's premier league.
