Depends on which figures you use. Like yourself, I always go for the highest reported figure to emphasise the point I'm making.

I don't know where you get off thinking you're like me, I tend to use the fee that the bbc reports but even if you found the highest reported fees for said players it would probably only amount to £35m. I'd say it were around £32m for the 3 of them.

Re: Andrey Arshavin
Arshavin's signing is one that has already 'come off'. After a decent but relatively quiet first three games, since the beginning of March he more than anyone else has been responsible for Arsenal's good run in the league. I didn't see Arsenal play West Brom, but he provided the assist in that game which gave Arsenal a 2-1 lead; and he was their best player in their home game against Blackburn, and in their away games against Newcastle, Wigan and Liverpool, all of which games I did watch.
He forced the own goal that gave Arsenal the lead against Blackburn; he scored a lovely second; and it was his shot that was parried giving Eboue an easy finish for Arsenal's third. His assist led to Arsenal's first goal against Newcastle, and he was their most threatening player throughout that match. Against Wigan, he assisted Walcott for the goal that drew Arsenal level in the game; his clever pass set Fabregas free to provide the assist for Arsenal's second; and he grabbed their third in the final minute of normal time. And he scored the four goals against Liverpool last night. (That's for the league - he also made a couple of assists to help Arsenal through to the semi-finals of the FA Cup.)
So Arshavin has been key to Arsenal gaining 13 points from these 5 league games - and though Villa have fallen away since January, these 13 points have gone a long way towards securing a fourth place finish that was far from secure when he joined the club. From a financial perspective, given that he has pretty much secured Champions League football for Arsenal next season, he has already repaid his transfer fee. But football isn't all about money and results and trophies; it is at root about talent and entertainment, and certainly in my view Arshavin is the most entertaining player in the league - he has acclimatised to it easily - he's really a joy to watch. He reminds me a little of Peter Beardsley, incidentally. He is two footed, quick, he has good balance, great vision and the ability to weight his through balls, and he shoots with such technique and conviction.

Not at all, Arshavin has looked good so far and you're still going to finish no higher than fourth. I'd just like to not get dicked around and accused of nonsense when I'm asking perfectly reasonable questions.
So, stop accusing me of nonsense Rosicky and answer the questions, otherwise you're actually proving right all my comments about Arsenal supporters.

You still need a DM.
For all the headlines, what has Arshavin actually done for Arsenal? It is Fabregas, RVP and Adebayor who'll get you fourth place, having to spend near 20 million on a player to rescue your season only papers over the cracks.
Stop being a comedian Saints.
Arshavin has been better and contributed to our game more than all those players u mentioned since he joined the club. He'll surely be up there for the PFA awards If he plays like this for an entire season.
What has he done for Arsenal? Help us win games vs Newcastle, Brum, Hull, Wigan, City, Blackburn etc He has transformed this team. He provides that quick little forward pass or that imagination going forward(this was what Hleb gave us in abundance) that we've lacked almost the entire season. People who saw how clueless we looked going forward in all our bore 0-0s this season or against teams that park the bus know the importance of those qualities to this team.
6 goals and 7 assists in 11 games says it all.
Will go down as one of Wenger's best buys ever! And I love him already.

Re: Andrey Arshavin
Even in thses times of violent knee-jerk reactions I can't believe someone can say that a signing has "come off" after 11 games.
They would have finished 4th without him.
He is great at shooting without space and haviing a short backlift but not as good as Eto'o in that respect.
Who knows how well he'll do next season.

kas wrote:And to answer Pierre's criticism of him from the other threads:
What a fantastic footballer who's achieved nothing at 28 apart from winning the UEFA Cup 10 years after it ceased to matter.
Different footballers mature at different ages. Just because scouts of big clubs didn't spot him, or if they did, didn't take a chance on him, doesn't mean he deserves the blame.
The one thing I don't get here Pierre is that Arshavin joins Arsenal at (roughly) 27 and a half having 'only' impressed in the UEFA cup and gets written off for it. Drogba joined Chelsea at 26 and a half having 'only' impressed in the UEFA cup and you could scarcely rate him higher. Both do so after the UEFA cup 'ceased to matter'. Does that year and a bit make such a huge difference?
If you are going to say that Drogba has attributes that suit the league more then fair enough that's arguable, but it's a different argument to writing off Arshavin for only playing for Zenit up until a relatively late stage of his career. I don't see how anyone can criticise his Arsenal career so far. He settled into our play immediately and looked like our brightest player even during those tedious early 0-0's. Since then he has contributed plenty of goals and assists, I don't think he could have done much more in the time he has had here. I just wish he could play for us in the CL. It's still early, but if he continues like this he will be a very good signing for us.

He's actually got 2 assists in the CL and has has created more chances than any other player in the competition despite only playing in the group stages. You can find all those stats here: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/rankings/4949057/Champions-League-Statistics.html
And I remember him destroying Ramos and Madrid without getting a goal or assist in that game. The same for his performance against Juve.
BTW care to reply to that great post by Sheffield Gunner?

Pierre, Arshavin a very good player.
Very good stat prof:
Chances created in CL:
1. Arshavin 38
2. Xavi 22
3. Fat Frank 21
Andrej is miles ahead of anybody despite playing far less matches.
