Not sure if i just made this up or what, but word has it Van Der Sar has had more clean sheets in the last two seasons than Given in his whole career.

As for Gomes, well, I'm happy with him now. John Terry is still wondering how his header never went in.
So you've looked at the stats put 2 and 2 together and come up with 12, genius. Take a bow choco heed.

If this was Xmas time, I'd have agreed with you (sadly), but he's shown a tremendous amount of Character to comeback from being a figure of fun. As F365 noted when Cech had his horror show in the 2nd leg against you lot:
That Cech is a shadow of the goalkeeper he was before suffering a fractured skull in October 2006 is not in dispute. His performances have deteriorated to such an extent that he is in jeopardy of losing his place and he would most probably be omitted for Saturday's FA Cup semi-final if only Chelsea still possessed a reliable and recognised alternative.
A penny, then, for Carlo Cudicini's thoughts. Having sat on the Chelsea bench for four seasons while Cech established a reputation as the world's best keeper, Cudicini departed Stamford Bridge three months ago for first-team football at Tottenham but has made just four appearances and has given way to the rejuvenated Heurelho Gomes since February. Coming soon on F365: The Worst Career Choices In The History of Sport.
If you want to look as Keepers, how about Given;
Newcastle's defence are no worse since he left, and Man City's are no better since he arrived. Plus he proved to be as big a mercenary as anyone in recent footy history when he jumped the sinking ship at the time he did. The leprechaun couldn't even wait until the season was over.
We all admire your attempts to stick with him T/S, but watching the United game from just a week ago does little to help your case.
He has done well to avoid this list, but is still a lovely big flop and a far from cheap lovely big flop
The whole team collapsed mentally, so there's no point singling him out. I haven't seen King play that badly (as he did in the 2nd half) in over 3 years for instance. If it was just him, and we were under no pressure, then I'd seen your point. The defence is much better this year (excluding last saturday) amongst the errors, there've been plenty of inspirational moments, he's beaten off Cudicini who most still rate, and that must count for something.
I see him the same way I saw Modric - at Xmas I genuinely feared the little Croat wouldn't make it, the way both have played in the 2nd half of the season I'm very happy with what they've done, and am looking forward to next year.
@ Coops
I dunno what to make of Bentley, and I can't argue with his placing. Maybe Aaron Lennon is just THAT good
I think we should cut our losses and he'll be sold to the highest bidder - he has great technique and can strike a ball great but he lacks the raw pace of Lennon, the intelligence of Modric or the dribbling skills of either to really make it count.

Nope, He's gone to City and the same crap has happened. He hardly brought a calming presence to an erratic defence, did he?
You'd think Dunne & Richards would've regained some form & consistency by now.

At 3 years younger than the similarly priced Tosic I guess we can exempt him under Kas' rules

To be fair to the kid, he was injured an awful lot, came back, scored a great goal in the UEFA Cup, and was then rewarded with a loan deal to Suffolk. I hope he'll be back next season. And he was cheaper than Tosic too.

Bellamy for £10m+?
He's already had injury problems for City, and is out for the rest of the season anyway.

There has to be a balance. If Berbatov was as pointless for Man U as Jo was for City then by all means he should be there.

I think Collocini should be higher. Bently has been shit but hasnt actually affected Spur's results to the same extent Collocini has. Newcastle would probably have more points if they never signed Collocini.

Your talking out your ass mate, our defence has been loads better since he came and the stats prove it mate we have conceeded a lot few goals in the EPL.
How can you call him a mercenary when he stood by Newcaslt for years, he left cos he was sick and tired of the club going downhill.

Sorry Goater, but the way he left our club, and the reason he gave was a disgrace.

Can't really argue with Shorey - particularly as he was widely reported as costing ~£5m, rather than the £2.5m they quote. Don't have any particular problem with him, but have to wonder why he wasn't picked for the many months we were without a fit LB.

Not nearly similarly priced. Giovani cost 5m euros early last summer, which is roughly 3-3.5m pounds. There's another 5m euros that will come based on his performances (goals, appearances) and Spurs' (CL qualification, trophy wins, etc.) but I think it's obvious we won't see any o that. So he's exempt mostly on the basis of an insignificant transfer fee.
