blutgraetsche wrote:"Mir san mir" or "mia san mia", in German "wir sind wir" (literally: "us is us") means that we are Bavarians, we want everything to remain as it is, we don't care about you 'outsiders'. It's the Bavarian way of life, a mixture of (over-) self confidence and isolationism, with a strong emphasis on Bavarian language, customs, traditions and ' uniqueness'.

Franz Josef Strauß was the incarnation of "mir san mir", for example. And Hoeneß, being Swabian and therefore an 'outsider' actually, the prime example of adopting "mir san mir".

Thanks for the explanation, even on the EMB you can learn something new every day Ale

I don't think they had to explain that concept to Van Gaal though Laugh

Good old Uli Hoeneß back to his old self. Today in the press conference, on the whole Ribery issue:

"Die rechte Hand von Perez hat ein paar Mal wegen Ribery angerufen. Da habe ich ihn gefragt, ob er das Spiel Monopoly kennt. Ich habe es ihm erklärt und gesagt, dass der FC Bayern vor zwei Jahren die Schlossallee gekauft und vier Hotels drauf gebaut hat. Diese Schlossallee gibt man nur her, wenn man in Not ist oder nicht mehr weiter weiß. Und wenn sich jemand da hinwürfelt, wird es teuer."

It's good that Van Gaal is verbally kicking his spoiled arse. Seriously, a lot of the current generation of players have no character, no class, and act like fucking spoiled brats.

He is an exceptional player, but Bayern should milk Real as much as they can and sell. Makes no sense to keep a player who wants to be somewhere else, and shows such unprofessional attitude.

55m + Sneijder would be wonderful.

I guess Ribery's attitude could be expected if you look at how he moved from club to club in the past. That plus a (player's) wife with too much control.

It seems like Van Gaal is enjoying his time in Munich, probably because so far, he gets all the 'respect' he demands. It will be interesting to see how he will react once Bayern lose a match or two, and the press starts asking questions.

What I like about him is his (almost German like...) meticulousness, his 'systematical' approach, e.g. the explanation he gave for the Lucio situation (-> right footed central defender on the right, left footed on the left), his emphasis on the team aspect. He is spot on btw. - Barcelona didn't just win the CL and Spanish league with style because of their great individual talent, but because they have an excellent team that has grown "organically" over the years.

It seems like Van Gaal really isn't too fond of the current starters in the central defence, Demichelis and Lucio. Sportbild is speculating that he prefers (left footed) youngster Badstuber (!) over them even.

I agree with him in principle - a left footed player on the left side of the central defence, a right footed one on the right side. Both Lucio and Demichelis are right footed, and hence not an ideal partnersip in principle.

But Lucio is still a very good central defender IMHO. Maybe he just needs a more reliable, more 'calm', left footed partner? Gerland and Van Gaal seem to rate Badstuber highly, maybe he really is the answer.

Hummels is a great talent indeed. Huge mistake to sell him to Dortmund, but good for German football. Smile

He really impressed me on the DM position in the U21 final in particular. A pity that there is no way for us to sign him, he would be the ideal Baumann replacement, and we could continue to play our diamond midfield.

It's good for Germany that we have a true DM in our ranks again, who is excellent in the central defence also.

If van Gaal thinks Badstuber is better suited for the tactics, he has in mind, he will play him. He has no problem with starting youngsters or dropping big names. It will be really intersting to see what he does with the selection available. He'll have to come up with his own Bundesliga tactics & figure out how he can get the best out of Bayern in the CL. The solutions will not necessarily be the same. Haven't got a clue what he'll go for, aslo when it comes to players. For sure he'll differ with others within Bayern & in Germany on qualities of players, he'll rate some higher & some lower.

As a Schalke fan I hope van Gaal loses a bit of his AZ pragmatism & goes for very bold ideas again.

That's actually what scares me Leonardo. For the first time in ages, at least as far as I can remember, Bayern seem to have a concept, seem to follow a systematical approach, and not just rely on their considerably better squad, simply because they are by far the richest club in the league, and hence can afford depth no one else can.

I do think that Van Gaal will need time for his ideas to work, but in the long run, the club will very likely benefit. He adds a new dimension of professionalism to the club, something Bayern had been lacking for a while.

He starts at the right moment. Doing worse is hardly possible & they know they need a change, so they probably give him more time than they would after a successful predecessor. Can't judge the situation within Bayern. What will be key is how key Bayern people will cope with him being around. He's far from an easy person and unless he's allowed to run the entire club, I see a lot of potential for conflict.

Understand your fear, Van Gaal & Bayern could be a dangerous combination.

I don't think so. No matter how good his aims are to built a team for the future, he will have to win the Meisterschaft next season. Sacrificing short-term success for long-term improvements won't be accepted at Munich. He will have to deliver results, especially after the disastrous last season. Or can you imagine two trophyless seasons in a row at Bayern? Yikes
