Ronaldo will struggle initially with the style, because of the differences in how you receive the ball in La Liga compared to the EPL.

In La Liga, most passes are directly to feet, and you face up your man and beat him from an almost still position, whereas in the EPL Ronaldo's become used to having a ball played into space ahead of him and running onto the ball at pace with the defender already backtracking, this is where he's most deadly, just like Henry & Torres.

I reckon Kaka', provided that he's injury free, will have the better start but Ronaldo will catch up in the 2nd half of the season - if he's willing to share the spotlight, and hasn't thrown his toys out of the pram by then.

His strengths are also expressed best when he's got a lot of space ahead of him just like Torres, Henry and Ronaldo. He's more of a "height and pace merchant"(ie Ronaldo, henry, torres according to Pierre) than the creative genius which most people here seem to think he's.

Your second paragraph - spot on ok

Well I suppose there's an element of truth to that, and he is push and run, but his style is very smooth and graceful, he always seems to put the right amount of "push" when he starts carrying the ball. and to be honest his touch is immaculate and he does have a vast array of moves & spins to get him out of tight corners, a lot more so than the other 3.

I still can't get over the name 'Lass'...what an absolutely horrific alias.

I'd love to see DLR come back. I love watching him play. As good as Alonso is, I wouldn't play him over someone like DLR who is already at the club.

Will be interesting to see who settles in the quicker out of Kaka + Tranny, and how the Madrid unit work in general. What's certain is that if Madrid get Villa, he'll bang them in for fun.

Ronaldo's performance will depend on how RM use him, in a 442 wing style he would be quite less effective.

So he's gone from the BPITW to someone who is now in decline all in the space of one week? Come on LRD, that's too much even for you!!!

I don't think he was ever the BPITW, but he is amongst the top set of players IMO (i.e Messi, Ronaldo, Kaka, Ribery)

You make an interesting point about the importance of his aerial threat. It is a credible threat and a very strong part of his game, but will he get to use it at Madrid given their style? I don't think he is particularly a great dribbler and that will probably remain the case in Spain, but he'll still maintain his goal threat, and do well enough. Comerically, he'll be a success anyway

Mata or Cazorla were probably the two best 'wingers' in La last season.

Eliseu, Navas + Robben were impressive during parts of the season as well.

I don't know who the best winger is though. I think there's definitely a strong argument for Cazorla. Likes of Joaquin + Vincente are still insanely talented as well, but inconsistent/injury prone.
