Re: So Ronaldo....
Well the 'best player' has to be a Utd player really seems as they've won it so many times.
So personally I'd say its Cantona. I don't think he can be considered as good as ronaldo in terms of ability but he was a bit more magical than him in that he was more technical - he didn't exactly have much pace.

He had much more ability than Ronaldo....but not the pace and was nowhere near as effective. Plus the United team now was much better than back then.

It's called Trophy Hunter / German logic : they will eat their own and even sacrifice the sport itself in order to win prizes.
They're not football fans : they're trophy fans
They equal skill with prizes won
Me as an Oranje fan and you as a Newcastle fan will (thankfully) never understand their kind

Ronaldo should be ahead of Cantona in every way tbh. Cantona is so overrated it is unreal.

Why is Cantona rated so highly he played when The Prem was the 4th best league in Europe at best.
Ronaldo played in the prem when it was the best and destroyed it.

Ronaldo >>> Cantona
Because Ronaldo has the vision of a blind brick without a seeing dog, equals style with cheating and thinks flair is refusing to celebrate with teammates.
Cantona oozed style and class (even while he was a bit of c**t), personified vision and had the kind of flair that could silence even the haters.

Re: So Ronaldo....
I'd have Gerrard and Scholes ahead of Ronaldo. Destroying the league for a couple of seasons then getting bored and moaning all the time hardly makes you a legend. In the 'Sami Hyypia is a legend' sense of the word. Whereas Scholes has been central to Man U's sustained success for over a decade. You could say the same about Gerrard, who has after all won everything except the league title. I'd also have Cantona roughly on a par with Zola, a little ahead of Ronaldo/Henry.

Cantona could do amazing things. But Cantona had so many bad games. Cantona sometimes had poor control or would miss simple chances or struggle to beat a player. He was a genius at that time, but to be honest he was never one of the best in the world.

Re: So Ronaldo....
Erm Ronaldo has just as many bad games if not more. I've seen so many games where Ronaldo has hardly had a touch but then he'll turn up and score and all of a sudden he's hyped to the heavens.
Cantona was never one of the best players in the world your right but given a choice I'd watch him over Ronaldo every day of the week.

Re: So Ronaldo....
Not really. In the last year or so Ronaldo dropped off for sure. Before that he turned up pretty much all the time. Ronaldo is 24 and he already has scored more goals than Cantona did in his career. Cantona was a striker. Cantona went missing in europe wayyy to much as well. I loved the guy but he isnt in the same class even if he had more class.
