If you read back I was agreeing with you in the sense that I don't think Xavi should be in the list. I just don't like the way certain people go on like this guy is a demi-god.

Nowadays you want your CF to be 6ft 1/6ft 2 maybe more whereas your SS should be a smaller player with a low centre of gravity, pace and dribbling skills to drop into space and run at people.

Zlatan is a very big SS, maybe that's part of the reason it doesn't work ?

The reason what doesn't work?
Zlatan in a two man attack with somebody like Eto and having another creative midfielder to take some of the load of him would fit him perfect. So far he has been playing in with players not of his class(Cruz,old Crespo) or unstable but good strikers(Adriano) and last season it was as a CF in a very uncreative midfield.

Not that he isn't good player - just that having a big SS doesn't give you the right dynamic in attack.

I can't understand the general sentiment but just don't think it really applies that much to Ibrahimovic. Especially since this big SS was also the top scorer last season in Serie A. If Ibrahimovic has failed(Imo he hasn't) it has more to do with the team builders in his clubs.

Downing was circled in the media i remember a few years back, i never saw anything in him, still don't really.

There are many more... I ve seen some good games from these players, but overall I just think they are average players at best.

I will add one player from out side these two leagues - I confess I have not seen him play more than 10 games or so, but I never saw what the fuss is all about - VDV.
