Chelsea diamond makes them struggle for creativity just like Inter last season. Drogba Ibrahimovic-style will get them out of some games, but don't see it working over the course of a whole season.

It can work if he changes the personnel involved

Cole, Zhirkov and Deco can all improve it. Hopefully Mikel stays fit all season.

Morning mes amis! phew! Ancelotti had better remove the garbage from the tip of his diamond and put someone who can actually feed the strikers. lol!

We KNOW Lampard has to play much like Terry even though Alex or Ivanovic are better than Terry, however, for the tip of Ancelotti's diamond DECO IS A MUST! Just saying. Biggrin <Ale>

Essien is totally perfect for it.

What the fuck do these managers see in Mikel Evil or Very Mad

    .....................Essien
    ....Deco/Cole..............Zhirkov
    .....................Flump

He'll settle on this eventually as he realises Mikel is shit

Funnily enough, he has actually played for us in that holding role. He's also played there before for Germany so the actual idea isn't as ridiculous as your senseless mind is making it out to be.

My point is that Ballack's passing range would be a lot more suitable when we play at home to teams such as hull rather than Mikel.

chelsea are still boring to watch, too much pace and power in that team, not enough creativity, they need to start deco, cole and that russian guy, their football would improve immediately

    Alright pillock!

Lampard has actually been okay, no matter WHO you put at the tip of this diamond, Chelsea won't excel... their lack of width is what is killing them at the moment. Each time Lampard recieves the ball, he looks right and then left, but no-one is there.

It's not that bizarre a comment. Ballack has played in that sort of role before in his career. Chelsea need someone who can distribute the ball well from that position, and Ballack can do that better than Mikel. I wouldn't play him there against all opposition, but I think he could offer more than Mikel does in a game like this.

Ballack dictating the play from the bottom of the diamond makes sense to me. Lampard at the tip doesn't though.

Your thought process is right, however the personnel is way wrong, either put Essien as the holding player, or change the direction of play and use Deco. Ballack is not a holding midfielder.

But that's not my point. My point is that Ballack has a much greater passing range than the likes of Essien and Mikel, so having him in that 'Pirlo' role against weaker teams at home would make sense, because there isn't such a great impetus on Ballack to be making a load of tackles, its mainly just tracking back.

The formation will take time to properly adapt, and I do agree that it doesn't really seem to suit us just yet. But it's only the 2nd competitive game we've played and it's too early to make a final judgement just yet.
