Thought Johnson showed both sides of his game today. A bit suspect defensively, but otherwise an upgrade on Arbeloa in all other areas of his game. I like him, and I think he a bright future in the game. He's pacey, technically good, offers a genuine goal/attacking threat, and he'll only improve offensively.

For all their strengths the likes of Clichy, Cole, Sagna, Evra aren't and will never be particularly productive going forward. None of them are particlularly good at crossing or passing a ball, or even positionally, but all of them are athletic, pacey, getting up and down the flanks well, the archetypal 'modern fullback' if you like. I think Johnson will go onto to become a similar sort of player with the added addition of genuine productivity. Needless to say, if he develops as he should, he will be the nailed on England RB for the 5 or so years.

What I also found interesting was Liverpool's complete inability to exert any sort of control over the game. Early day's, but the gap left by Alonso is perhaps already rearing its ugly head. As good a player as Gerrard is, he is a bit headless and possession football just isn't his game. It's not particularly a strength of Mascherano's either. As for Lucas, he seems to do a lot of running around, but I'm not entirely sure what he is supposed to be doing; and I'm not sure he knows what he is supposed to be doing either.

That said, Tottenham were excellent today, all over the pitch. Not sure they'll keep it up, but they do have a good squad.

Aquilani, Agger, Aurelio is that it ? cos looking at the team and bench its just nt good enough, im not just saying it cos the lost today its just clear to see. They needed to go out and bring in 4 or 5 top quality players this summer but they havnt done and they dont have enough strength and depth to win the prem, they rely so much on Gerrard and Torres.

No, no, no. Do you write for the Sun or just regurgitate their bollocks. To cover for our injuries we would have had to buy 2 extra centre backs - does that make sense to you?

Riera was out as well, our squad should have added a CM and striker this summer - whilst replacing Alonso and Arbeloa. We didnt need 4 or 5 players.

So a CM, a right back a striker so thats 3 players so i was only one more than you think lol! Doh

2 players. One of Degen or Arbeloa was always going to leave when we signed Johnson - so he was not really an addition to the squad but a replacement.

    I love this country.

Chelsea were playing ugly football, having loads of shots and scraping a win.

That's never happened before - it must be that new fangled diamond what did it !

We only had two kids on the pitch by the end of the match. If you look at all the other teams they regularly field 100 kids a game.
