Been a very thight game so far with neither team being willing to take the initiativ. Ghana has also defended very well and Egypt simply aren't that great if you defend deep. That is why they have been much better against the typical favourites like Ivory Coast or Cameroon.

I haven't been a fan of Mikel but as you hav said his status will mean he's never dropped. Moving him further back may be a viable option.
If we are to have a player in the AM role it would need to be one of Obinna, Obasi or Uche. They are much more mobile, quicker and have better vision than the Yak.
The Yak should only be used in emergency situations like great-grandfather Kanu

EGYPT CHAMPIONS OF AFRICA
Thought Ghana were the better side in the final but at the same time they simply didn't create enough chances.

It became the first tourney to start with a sudden death shootout, but it ended in a predictable fashion. These blacks need to fix up and beat the arabs.

Disappointing game, both teams were very conservative. Congrats to Egypt though, best team in Africa yet again with the right combination of talent and tactics.

But then they are not even three times in a row at the World Cup... so how good they are really?
Arab Africans always play good at the Africa Cup (rememeber Tunesia of the past) but they are c(a)rap when they have to show it at the real international stage....
How come?

Re: African Cup of Nations
What did people think of this year's ACoN?
I must say I found it very disappointing - there were a couple of entertaining matches, but for the most part it just reinforced the view that a lot of the worst aspects of African football don't seem to be developing. The sub-Saharan teams seem incapable of applying an effective style of play, or getting the best out of their resources. With very few exceptions the goalkeepers were appalling, and the pitches were poor as well which wasn't conducive to good football. Even some of the most exciting games were tempered by the fact that so many of the goals came about because of sub-standard goalkeeping. Plus it's a disappointment that the best country, who actually play as a team, won't be at the World Cup. The Togo incident has (unfairly) damaged the continent's reputation to host a major tournament as well.

Agree with all your points, and would add that so many games ended up being quite boring because teams would immediately try to defend and close down the game after taking a lead.

I thought that on average the games were a lot better than what the EPL served up at the same time.
I thought that the organisation was, as per usual, pretty poor.
I thought that the pitches were dodgy, but no worse than many in England.
I thought Egypt were fully deserved winners and are one of the few international sides who can actually combine their way through defences.
I thought that Togo were very disappointing, I don't remember any play of note from them in this tournament.

Hassan Shehata - the only coach in the history of the African Cup of Nations to win it three times in a row.
Egypt - the only team to win it three times in a row, with a few players like Gomoa and el Hadary setting new record of consecutive wins in final.
Egypt - unbeaten in finals of African Cup of Nations since 2004.
Egypt - 19 match unbroken unbeaten run in finals of African Cup of Nations.
Mohamed Gedo - only substitute to be top scorer in major competition.
Egypt - Best team in Africa by far!
Of 16 coaches in ACN, ten Europeans and six Africans - three African coaches in semi-finals.
African coaches Hassan Shehata and Charles Kumi Gyamfi most successful in competition's history.
Africa - only confederation not to have play-off for best losers in World Cup qualifiers.
World Cup without Egypt is a travesty in those circumstances.
Hail the Pharaohs!
Been too busy to post lately, but Egypt's success proves what I said all along.

Re: African Cup of Nations
You had THREE chances to dispose of Algeria (the only team in your way mind you) so that you could go to the WC and Egypt couldn't deliver when it matters the most. You needed a miracle goal deep into injury time at home to force a playoffs match against Algeria, a MIRACLE goal...otherwise Algeria were home safe to the WC.
Still, I had no doubt Algeria were gonna go to South Africa because they are the BETTER team. Egypt only have themselves to blame, you had THREE chances to eliminate the ONLY team on your path to the WC and failed simply because Algeria ARE THE BETTER TEAM, much better technique than Egypt, much much better technique.
We all saw how you needed a corrupt ref in the ACN to defeat Algeria. It doesn't matter though. Algeria GOT THE JOB DONE where they needed it the most that's why they're going to the WC. Sorry EMP, but the better team made it.
