Bollocks you were mate, you sang just after you scored but not for that long and then didnt hear a peep out out of you all during the second half.

Your away fans are generally not bad (as are most away fans) but at Old Trafford the atmosphere is terrible, its not even load on derby day the only ones that try to sing are the ones next tothe away fans. 3k of us normally outsing 73k so on wednesday 9k will do it no probs.

That does tend to happen at most grounds though - ticket prices so expensive these days, so many of them going to corporate wankers, families go to home games and rarely away ones - away fans are almost always louder than home fans.

Heart is hoping City win this one as it may divert their attention away from 4th place and the league.

However, can only see one winner tonight. City's away form is pretty abysmal, and United will be pumped for it.

    United to win 3-1 Ale

I would have put a lot of money on that happening. United probably deserved to go through in all honesty, City's midfield was absolutely shocking until Ireland came on. They've got all the money in the world but that midfield and defence isn't good enough.

tonight's game was one in the eye for all those who think that Manchester United are reliant on Rooney ok

Giggs and Scholes will probably die of old age before Anderson, Nani, Tosic or Obertan are good enough to replace them.

Me and my flatmate were giving the c**t some serious abuse for that.

Will the papers cane him for it ?

    Will they fuck.

That goal from a GK point of view is just as bad as Taibi v S'oton all those years ago - same outcome.

But he did a dramatic save at the end (couldn't get out of the way) so its alright.

Surely even his biggest fans have to ask why he has never played for a real top club.

You're finally learning the game, COTR! <Ale>

Given's a terrific shot stopper, with awesome reflexes, but doesn't command his area. Never has, and never will. Still ten times better than any current English goalie.

Surely Mancini's taking note, and will sign a goalie in the summer along with replacements for Bellamy and Barry. They're not gonna win you a damn thing and Mancio knows it. <Ale>

Man Utd probably edged the tie over the two legs. It was a tie where I didn't want either side to win, so I'm probably less disappointed than most on here that Man Utd went through. I think this will mean less to them than winning would for City, it gives them another game to be preoccupied with, and it makes Gary Cook look like even more of a dick for his boasting after the first leg.

IF Bellamy can sustain good performances FOR A WHOLE SEASON, then no problem. I know he can do it-good player he is-, but his track record betrays him. Can he finally have staying power? He's got 3-4 years of good football, it's all up to him. I'd take Bellamy any day in my team over Joe Cole for example. Can Bellamy do it the entire season though? I know he can. <Ale>

Probably, United are a stronger side.

But we've beaten them once this season already, so they should have less of the psychological edge. And also, you'd have to think it would be a bigger thing for City. First cup final in eons, whereas for Man Utd it's just another pretty minor cup.

Unlucky Goater you got taught a lesson. I loved the game tonight from the second half onwards. Great atmosphere, great football and put a bunch of big heads in their place.

Nani again did most things right. Rooney just magic and Scholes still an important player to my surprise. City made a usually boring league cup double tie very exciting so fair play to them for that, but with all their talk and early optimism and perceieved greatness this is one big BANG Biggrin Ale

Given had a good game IMO. But on the first goal Giggs hit it to far infront of him and i looked away expecting the keeper to smother it but he decided to wait on his line. Errors like that is why he cant be classed with the top keepers.

Just watched highlights. That VDS save was something else. Richards could not have hit it any better and right in the top corner. If Foster was playing thats a goal and the whole dynamic of the tie is different. Shows what a big difference a good keeper makes in every single game. Rio bringing calm and being able to pass the ball from the defence adds 20% to other areas of the field bar the defence as well.

Bellamy is the biggest twat in football. I rate him as a footballer but fucking hell he never shuts up. Karma works pushed a Man Utd fan in the face(while he was being held by two stewards of course) and then got his yesterday. Looked like a prize muppet slowly dropping to his knees and crawling, shame the flood of bottles didn't hit him as well.

I don't mind Tevez really. He gives his best for whoever he's playing for just a little simple and can be naive or stupid in certain comments. Nice elbow on him by Rio as well Biggrin Ale

Was fully expecting someone to pick up on this...I'm not in the "Given is the best keeper in the Premier League" group, but I'd like to see all the top goalies in the world try to come out and catch an extremely fast, curving cross that's in the strikers' 'sweet spot'. ie. the 5/6 yard area. I guarantee many would mishandle it and look even more stupid than if they had just stayed on the line and taken their chance that the striker would head over or straight at them (thus allowing the keeper to produce a "wonder save" ).

Good performance by Man. Utd. though...once they got the first goal they were always favourites to win. Not sure Mancini got his lineup right. At times Zabaleta was the furthest forward midfielder but didn't know what to do so would just drop back again. SWP is shit, and Tevez/Bellamy are so reliant on pace that they started tiring after the 60th minute. Extra time would also have seen a Man. Utd. win.

    WRONG

    http://www.101greatgoals.com/videodisplay/4587915/

Any good keeper would have been happily picking this ball up and there never would have been any danger. Giggs touches it miles outside the box and doesn't touch it again until he is close to the six yard box. If Given had even been remotely alert or anticipated a counter attack instead of staying firmly rooted to his line until it was too late there wasn't a chance of a goal being scored.

    100% his fault
