Disagree away old bean.
A player doesn't have to be winning trophies to be considered a top-class player.
Depends what you mean by 'top class'. To me, the very best players win trophies. I've said the same about Adebayor - talented as he may be, I think that he has to win team trophies (not POTM awards) to truly be considered among the best around.
Look at your own Le Tissier for example.
Le Tissier was a big fish in a small pond, and his lack of ambition stopped him winning trophies. Even I wouldn't say Le Tiss was among the greatest players of his time. Fabregas is a big fish in an allegedly big pond and as I said, if he has the ambition to leave the pond for the mega-ponds of Spain then he'll probably win all the trophies around.
True, in order to win World Player of the Year Awards and that kind of guff, then playing for a successful club or international nation is imperative, but real fans know that the likes of Shearer and Le Tissier were far better players than say Djimi Traore or David May (both Champions League winners).
No one ever made out that David May was as good as Jaap Stam or any of the other top CBs in the league at that time. Likewise, no one ever said it was 'reasonable' to consider Traore among the best LBs in the league at the time.
However, people are explicitly comparing Fabregas to the likes of Essien and Gerrard, far more accomplished and proven players. I am saying that comparison is unjustified. Obviously Fabregas is more talented than David May and Djimi Traore.
If United win the league, I don't think anyone will be suggesting Anderson is better than Cisco Flabbergast.
If United win the league I'm going to stop watching the Premiership. They've been fucking dreadful. Even I, the most staunch critic of Arsenal, will admit they've played considerably better than United this season.
Although the bonus will be that a player like Cisco clearly wants to win trophies, and if he can't do that at Arsenal he'll be off. Being Spanish, Madrid or Barca will guarantee silverware for the little dago, so Arsenal fans better hope and pray they can satisfy his needs after a season as good as the one he's having.
We will see. He is clearly a very talented player. But talent alone does not make a great player. Unless I've missed something his only medal so far came from an FA cup final where he got totally outplayed by Darren Fletcher. In last season's CL semis Essien's major contribution was one of the goals of the tournament, whereas Fabregas's major contribution was diving to get Darren Fletcher sent off.
