Or perhaps if he were French, black and starred in Renault/Gillette commercials he'd get more media attention, rather like that well known overrated player who was at Arsenal for so many years.

From a Spurs fan though - Fabregas is easily the best player in the league currently. And at 22 it's quite scary to think what he can achieve. Once he leaves Arsenal of course when will Cesc Fàbregas get the credit he deserves? - Page 2 F_ale2

@Ozil - I see Ballack scored his first goal in 18 games for Chelsea. What a player.

lol no its his 4 goal in this season, fat frank scored 8 (i dont know how many penaltys are included)

as i always say, ballack is not this goalscoring midfielder for chelsea, he has other tasks, which are not less important

Xavi and Iniesta play for a financial juggernaught though. The type of club that can throw £45m AND Eto'o in, to try and sign a player. They play in a team with a supporting cast that includes WPOTY Messi.

Cesc meanwhile, is pretty much carrying Arsenal at the moment. They're seonc most highly renowned player, RVP, has been out injured for the last 2 and a half month and won't be back until the end of April.

wenger can spend money too, he just doesn't want to because he is a pedophile when will Cesc Fàbregas get the credit he deserves? - Page 2 Icon_biggrin.

The boys is the shit, i have no problems saying that

but their is more to being the best CM in the world that scoring goals, when the english fans, media and players, learn this then maybe they will stand a chance of winning the WC.

PS canales also has more goals than Xavi and iniesta guess that means he is better than them as well.

Cesc has 10 goals and 12 assists in 17 games. Its not just goals Messiah. Come on... that's pretty incredible.

I don't think anyone is saying yet that he is better than Xavi or Iniesta -but he has the potential to be better than both, given the quality of player he has been this season at the still tender age of 22.

    @ozil,

    1) Ballack's goal this weekend was his first since SEPTEMBER 2009. Even Ashley Cole has scored 3 times for Chelsea this season, and he's not even a midfielder.

You should be thanking Joe cole for lining it up on a plate for him too, as you don't want your Captain to forget what it feels like to score what with the World Cup coming up Ale

    2) Is that list supposed to be the top midfielders in the World? And you have Ozil at 4? The hype has clearly made you dizzy, lets see how the Turk does in the Champions League and World Cup before he can even be mentioned in the same breath as the others.

    3) Putting aside Messiah's rather odd attack on the Premiership - as though it were a league that hasn't consistently put teams into the semi's and finals of the CL -

My ratings for EPL players of the year to date would be:

    1. Fabregas
    2. Drogba
    3. Rooney
    4. Milner
    5. Hart

Even Fab has had a number of off days. As an Arsenal supporting friend of mine said to me yesterday, he went to the Chelsea game and watched Fabregas put in a very limp performance when it counted. But then there is no such thing as a player being superb in every game, and his stats are marvellous. As Tweeds has lovingly pointed out

Fabregas won a Euro 2008 medal at 20 or 21. Bobby Moore was a great player but at West Ham won very few medals.

Midfield is still the engine room of football and would be my first name down on a EPL team list followed by Drogba.

He was an excellent supersub for them and ended up playing maybe half of the time. Played the final, came on and influenced the semi when it was in the balance, came on and scored in the group stages, scored the winning penalty in the quarters. I'd say this winners' medal is of more significance than his one from the FA Cup.

The reason why people said Cesc was better then Xavi a couple of seasons ago is that Cesc WAS better then him. From 06-08 Cesc was quite a bit better then Xavi was average to poor in that time. In that time Cesc performed very well in Cl and guided his team to the final at a very young age. Had half a very good season in 07/08 before he degressed like the rest of his team.

With regards to Cesc at the Euros he had one good sub appearance against Italy without creating any big chances. Played in the next game and once again underperformed for Spain as has been the case for quite a few games. For what ever reason he just doesn't perform that well for Spain.

You think he was that bad in the final? Obviously other players had more of an effect than him but his passing was still as good as ever, and created many clear cut opportunities. The 1-0 scoreline against Germany wasn't justice at all.

As for the semi-final as Allez said, he absolutely ruined Russia.

Fantastically gifted - I wonder how long it is before someone tries to have him man marked ?

Megson tried this, unsuccessfully, with Muamba on Gerrard last season - everything that Arsenal do comes through Cesc so its a matter of time.

It would be far more difficult than the job Gilberto did on Riquelme at Highbury because Fabregas is far more mobile.

I do think he needs a few more really good performances in big games but he has plenty of time.

He was appauling v United in both CL semi's and needs to put in a game winning performance against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge or v Barcelona in CL etc to be right at the top.

Took a very hardline with Iaquinta and Pizarro a couple of years back - you don't play unless you sign a contract and that was always going to work with Iaquinta in a world cup year.

The Amoroso transfer to Dortmund was rumoured to be £24m too but there was, according to rumours, something a bit dodgy about that transfer.

I've got an Udinese shirt from the Bierhoff era but I never wear it without a t-shirt underneath 'cos it has an embroidered badge which leads to some serious nipple chafing.

Granted, those two teams are probably only mid-table quality EPL teams now....

I think the question we should be asking is:

Was xavi as good as cesc at aged 22?

And the answer would be no. The Xavi hype started the last few years, around the time that Dinho made barcelona successful and messi continued it. Of course it is a team game and he contributes to that, but having the best player in the world doesn't half help. Unfortunately Cesc's doesn't have that luxury at Arsenal, he is their best player by far.
