"Zidane took his team to Euro '96 semi's"
He was part of the team but its hard to remember him doing anything of note.
"Cesc has put in match winning performances v Milan" = he hit a daisy cutter and a goalkeeper who was deemed not good enough for Leicester went down in installments.
Cesc's pass for Guiza v Russia in Euro semi's
Not really achieved much yet though.
In answer to Allez - why do I loathe him ?
Because he's loathsome.

Ronaldo help Portugal to the WC semi's at what 21.
Copa
Ronaldo wasn't better than Figo, Maniche, Deco, Simao, etc. He was their best young player.
Zidane was the main 'playmaker'. We created our whole national team around him. When Ronaldo was doing well, he had the golden generation of portugal to help him.
Portugal without Figo = France without Zidane. Pretty much.
Zidane defined golden generation of France and world football. He was up against great R's of brazil, the infinitely talented golden generations of Portugal, Super Argentina, fighting Germans, classy Dutch, fiery Czechs, underdog Croats, etc.
Messi for Argentina.
Let Messi or Ronaldo win their country a WC first. Then we will talk about it.
Copa america stupid fuck, you know the South american equivalent of the European chamionship.
Ronaldo may not have been their best player, but he did more than zidane did at a similar age, being a important player for a team that actually made the final.
I see you have to resort to when zidane was actually at his peak, when he won the WC and was the "Best of the golden generation", but that's not what i was arguing now is it.
Facts are Ronaldo and messi pisses all over zidane at a similar age, all zidane had was a few silky moves, but no now where near the levels of effectiveness.
Ronaldo and messi Golden ball winners before the age of 23. zidane nothing.

you twit.
c**t rates Copa as equal as Euros. With huge respects to the federation, it's no where close to Euros.
Getting stats out of your arse.

Xavi was no key member of Van gaals, title winning team in 98-99 season. It's like saying Bojan was key member of ur treble winning season. In fact, Bojan would have appeared more times for farca last season than Xavi would have in 98-99.

not just miles better, but galaxies apart
As for Xavi and cesc at the Euros, you are just plain fucking stupid, getting substituted right, like spain would have won it with out Xavi.
Xavi made something like 20 appearances in the league in 98-99, bit part indeed. contributing to a league title, what was cesc doing, nothing.
as for zidane days at juve, just proves you don't know jack shit about which you speak, if you are giving zidane credit for what happen at Juve in those years. go back and what some tapes and ask more well in formed persons and you might hear names like Del piero and baggio coming up.
Cesc was eleven you bellend
are you a man fooker or something, whats with the you know what reference.
sorry i won't swing that way.
just answer the question, what had cesc won at club leve, by age 19, thats right nothing

Zidane didn't move earlier in his career, or he would have won many such awards. He was brilliant at that age. Took bordeaux as much as he could and then went into Juve, and immediately won trophy & got them to CL finals, back to back. Anyway, El Fenomeno was dominating at 19 and he is much better than Messis & Ronaldos. He was unplayable and yet Zidane is the only player in the generation to compare favorably to him. Says it all about the great man.

Count how many South American teams and European teams have won WC in modern times, and how many semis European nations have made to. Brazil and Argentina should naturally be 50-50 for the Copa. Yeah, I don't really rate it as high as euros.
You said Xavi was a "key player" then went to "bit part indeed". And said 20 games or something like.
You said Zidane wasn't the reason Juve did well after they signed him and that it was all due to Del Piero and Baggio. And you asked me to watch old dvds.
You got 'em all wrong.

I'm afraid I don't quite follow what you're talking about here (particularly with "man fooker" and such) and suspect you don't either. Sorry.
I kinda agree that too much hot air is being spouted based on what teams people play for. If you don't play for Barcelona, Real or Brazil, you're hardly as likely to be winning trophies at 19, or indeed at 11. Cesc won an FA Cup at 17, so fecking what.
Very instructive Pierre, cheers.
thanks Bernd
