Yeah lack of subs was baffling. Particularly surprised Maxi was kept on the whole match. N'Gog did okay in that he at least looked vaguely energetic and willing. Might as well have Babel on as well - Zubar is dodgy & they didn't exploit that enough.

Di Caniooooo! wrote:Portsmouth's player crisis has plunged to new depths with the club facing the prospect of only being able to name three substitutes for Tuesday's vital Premier League clash with West Ham.

The cash-strapped side fielded only five of the seven subs allowed in their FA Cup win over Sunderland on Saturday and injuries to Michael Brown and Papa Bouba Diop have added manager Avram Grant’s woes.

Grant named 17-year-old Lennard Sowah among the subs in the 2-1 win but will not call on other youth teamers simply to fill the bench.

Pompey cannot bring in emergency loans due to a transfer embargo and they have four players who have been on duty in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Tommy Smith may be back but Jamie O’Hara has returned to Spurs after his loan deal expired and Mike Williamson will not feature because he is in talks with Newcastle.

Well, pompey is going down, and that idiot predictor on BBC predicts a 2-1 pompey win, the fool.

    Pretty close in the end.

Mascherano has proven he is brilliant at what he does when we are a functioning, attacking team.

At the minute he recognises that there is nothing coming from midfield and has unfortunately decided that he wants to be the Alonso this season.

He is a victim of circumstances (as is Lucas btw) but unlike Mascherano Lucas has no redeeming features for me to offer him any support

Three games, three defeats and Burnley haven't even managed to score since Brian Laws was surprisingly appointed as their new manager. To make it worse they slip into the drop zone today, with Bolton getting the hell out of there.

What an appointment he's turning out to be. How you can appoint someone sacked by a poor championship team for doing terrible i don't know.

    Liverpool beat Hull 6-1

Man Utd struggled against Wolves and didn't look like scoring before they were awarded a penalty.

Liverpool didn't have the advantage of playing against Wolves reserves.

That said, there's no excuse for this result, but United aren't much better and without Rooney their season would already be over.

No Aquilani when you need a goal? Bizarre. Looks like Benitez is trying his best to get sacked and earn some extra cash before accepting Juve's offer.

Burnley appointing Laws looks like a great decision for Hull, West Ham, Wigan, Bolton, and Wolves. But I wouldn't read too much into it yet because their last 3 games have all been away from home, where they were rubbish even with Coyle. Next one is at home to Chelsea, so I don't think Laws can be judged properly until their game in Feb - West Ham at home. 6 pointer, etc.

sounds like Rafa has been blaming the ref as usual Rolling Eyes

    Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez:
"If you analyse the game, it was a fair result. In the first half, we were in control, although we didn't create chances. The final pass in the final third was the difference.
"In the second half, they pushed harder. We still had some good counter-attacks but again the final pass was the difference. It was a fair result."

Well he was slated before KO for selecting Gerrard over Aquliani by many Liverpool supporters including myself. It was clear as daylight very early on someone of Aquliani's vision and ability was needed.

Being benched after showing some very positive signs vs Spurs must be highly demotivating for the guy.

Picked up a few injuries (most notably Carew, Warnock, Petrov) so at a guess we'll be lining up:

    Friedel
    Cuellar-Collins-Dunne-Young
    Young-Milner-Sidwell-Downing
    Agbonlahor-Heskey

Although hopefully Petrov is able to play ahead of Sid. tbh, I'd probably take Delph over Sidwell..he may lack experience, but is less likely to go missing completely. That would be a midfield with plenty of energy, if not exactly much steel.

We really need to not go behind early in this one, as I think we'd struggle to chase game.
