mmm I'm a huge England and Mexico fan. So I'm just wondering What happened to Jared Borgetti? Seriosuly the guy scored every time he was a starter for Bolton. Why ship him to the Arabs? If I had a guy like that on my team I'd like to keep him.

He was a good footballer. He could actually play the ball on the ground. He was never going to suit Allardyce's style of play.

Yes, it's a cheap dig at Bolton RFC, but a true one nonetheless.

Also, I can't imagine he was on a small wage packet. Getting him off the wage bill probably made room for Anelka's wages.

It's probably a financial descision more than anything. He wasn't playing much so he wasn't adding anything on the pitch and I'm sure they thought that his wages could be put to better use.

Yeah seems about right. But sending him to Saudi Arabia is pretty low, he's better off back here in Mexico where there is actually quality football. In Arabia Jared has 3 goals in 2 games...So not much challenge there.

I was impressed with the Mexicans in the world cup, have any more of them moved to Europe over the summer?

I know Salcido is now at PSV, but any one else?

Ricardo Osorio and Pavel Pardo joined VfB Stuttgart this season. Both are Mexican internationals.

    Well...

Guille Franco plays for Villareal in Spain
    Rafa Marquez-- plays for Barza
    Francisco Fonseca--plays for Benifica
    Pavel and Osorio--Stuttgart
    Salcido--PSV

And that's about it. I think thats mainly because of the ever improving quality of the Mexican League. The Mexican League has become the best outside of Europe and maybe the Russian or other Easter European leagues.

Osorio looked good, very fast, comfortable on the ball. Pardo was ok, but unspectacular, I wanted Zinha to come over.

I don't get to see much of the Bundesliga, but one of my favorite Argentinian players, Federico Insua plays there now, do you know how hes doing blutgraetsche?

Why do you think it is that the Mexicans that do go to Europe, even though not many do, don't seem to fulfill their potential, at least recently (except Marquez). The distance? culture shock?

Blanco, for instance, watching him in France 98 is one of my best world cup memories, but he didn't seem to perform in Spain.

Do you think the Mexican league is stronger than those in Brazil and Argentina. I know theres plenty of good Argentinians playing in Mexico and that Mexican clubs have done well in the copa libertadores of late.

Insua is doing well for Mönchengladbach. Fans like him, he is getting good press. Gladbach have a young team with a lot of potential. Their mix of promising young foreigners like Insua, and home grown talent (their youth academy is one of the best in the league) seems to work well, and is the way to go for Bundesliga clubs IMHO.

Sums up just about all of the Mexican centrebacks, doesn't it? They all look comfortable at centreback, fullback and holding midfield.

It's a shame that Mexico don't seem to have one "special" player going forward. One genuinely World Class superstar - they'd be a genuine world force then IMHO.

Maybe Zinha is that, I'm not sure - he looked alright, but I wouldn't say he was a Kaká or a Riquelme. A player of that calibre could really put them amongst the best I think.

    MexicanTeamOfTheRosesFan,

Is Guardado still in Mexico (at Atlas, I think)? He looks and sounds as if he's a fantastic prospect. Where does he play domestically - I hear he's a right winger, but his brief outing at the world cup was as a leftback. Is he another of those wonderful positionally-flexable players you've produced?

How much longer do you see him staying in the Mexican league?

Glad Insua's doing well, one of the best left foots in football I think.

Yeah, I agree Obispo, Mexico are full of very good players, who can play all over, but they seem to lack that one, brilliant player, Zinha, much as I like him, is not that.

Yeah Guardado plays for Atlas. I actually saw him a couple of weeks ago when my local side Tigres played Atlas. He is brilliant, and only 19 years old. A great prospect and should go to European footie when the right offer is made.

He is one of the best players in Mexico right now, but Guardado is one of the Gems playing for Atlas so its going to be hard for them to let him go right now, maybe when the season ends.

They were ready to trade him to Real Madrid, but they offered 200,000 Euros for him which is a joke. Mexican teams are no slouches they make great money and 200,000 Euros ain't cutting it for one of the best in the nation.

Cuauhtémoc Blanco came very close to that status IMHO. A shame that he didn't move to Europe during his career. The talent was definitely there to become a real star, not just in Mexico.

If only things would look similar for the Brits. Although I really like this McClaren guy. I just hope injuries don't ruin us in Euro 2008.

Yeah I'm actually American but I've been living in Mexico since I was a kid, although most of my family lives in New York. There's really not much going on. There's really no violence, just peaceful protests. I like thwe liberal, but I don't think the republican stole the election. Actually Mexico is doing pretty good now, we have one of the better economies in the world and living in Monterrey is just a dream. Great nightclubs...Awesome sports(Barza played a month ago)
I didn't know Mexico got much coverage in the rest of the world... Where do you live?

    I live in London.

Yeah, the coverage I've seen has just been the protests, thought it might be a big deal because the crowds are very large, but then I guess they would be considering the population of Mexico City.
