Breaking news:
http://www.as.com/futbol/articulo/aduriz-deja-mallorca-ficha-valencia/dasftb/20100714dasdasftb_38/Tes
Good signing, especially for 4m euro. And between Soldado and Aduriz I think Valencia will be able to replace the goals that Villa provided. Neither has the quality of Villa of course but in terms of goalscoring I think they will be ok. If they lose Mata though...

Apparently Atletico have finalised the signings of Filipe Luis and Diego Godin.
Marchena to Villarreal to replace Godin.

I can't believe Atletico will have a proper back 4!!! And apparently Fran Merida was impressive for them in a friendly...if he can nail down a starting spot, he could really become a star.
Marchena is a good signing by Villarreal, but weakens Valencia further. He's mentioned in Barça's list of DM replacements too...can cover CB and would only cost around 3-4m euros since his contract runs out next summer.

Great transfers for Atletico and now they just need to buy Thiago and they will actually be a balanced team. I still don't rate Assuncao but for now they can live with him since the defence is so much stronger.
Surprised Valencia hasn't bought any good defenders yet because I don't think they really have a decent one. They should definitely get rid of some of the crap and buy one or two good Cb's. Alba looked fine as a Lb and they will have to live with Bruno a Rb.

They'll need to find some free transfers though. Maybe they should have gone for Botia.
btw, Atletico do look like getting Tiago permanently, but as part of a deal that will take Forlan to Juventus. So then they'd need a striker from somewhere...or at least a new backup if Salvio is promoted to first choice alongside Aguero.

Forlan probably has 2 good years left in him and if Atletico get 20M, that Juventus are supposedly offering plus Thiago and Grosso(not needed now), then they would be better of and especially if they keep Aguero which it looks like they will.
Im guesing Quique will switch to 4-2-3-1 because it made sense with two so good strikers as Forlan and Aguero. And Salvio is a winger and Jurado will better suited along with Merida behind a striker.

For some reason they really really rate David Navarro who I think is mostly sh!t. Alexis is ok but he's quite injury prone. Angel Dealbert is decent but probably not CL quality. They've just signed Ricardo Costa who I know nothing about really but Calidad, I think, was saying he is sh!t. So even if Marchena leaves that is 4 CBs and I don't suppose they will be adding anyone, at least not if you believe Manuel Llorente.

I don't know why I think it but for some reason he strikes me as a player who can be class even until his mid-thirties. I wouldn't be surprised to see him star at for Uruguay again in four years time.Super Madrid wrote:Forlan probably has 2 good years left in him and if Atletico get 20M
RE: Fran Merida
He's one player I'm going to be keeping an eye on over the next few years. If the manager finds the right position for him in his team and gives him time to settle I'm sure he will go on to become a very good player, maybe even an international at some point. I can remember someone on here over the last twelve months saying he will end up being more of an Arteta type player can say an Xavi/Fabregas and I'd call them 100% right on that.

Atletico are starting to look good... now they seem the most likely team to give top 2 something to think about, so I hope Forlan stays.

Alexis looked good at Getafe but very shakey for Valencia. Dealbert is not good enough and neither is Navarro. From what I remember from Costa at Tottenham he was a bit of a failure. Incredible that The Coward isn't demanding some decent defenders.Jaime wrote:Super Madrid wrote:Great transfers for Atletico and now they just need to buy Thiago and they will actually be a balanced team. I have the same feeling about Forlan but recent history shows that once you are past 30 your goalrecord worsens. So far I think Forlan hasn't shown any signs and perhaps he will be able to keep on going but the sensible thing to do is to cash in if you can get 20M and Thiago and perhaps another player. If they managed to get Poulsen they would have a very good squad.Cesc Soler wrote:I don't know why I think it but for some reason he strikes me as a player who can be class even until his mid-thirties. I think Atletico will be in a good position even if they don't sell Forlan because they have finally given attention to the defence and Filipe Luis will bring a real attacking contribution to that flank which would improve Simao in turn. Ulfalusi on the righ will be more defensive. Still think they will have creative problems in central midfield but things are finally moving forward for Atletico.

No doubt and for once Atletico are looking really good. Quique is a good coach and his teams are normally well organised. So far I would say they are on par with Sevilla of 2005-2007 which challenged for the title. However mentally Atletico have some big problems whereas Sevilla were quite strong and meanwhile Real Madrid and Barcelona have improved so I don't know if they can really compete allthough it would be nice.bluenine wrote:Super Madrid wrote:Thiago Mendesbluenine wrote:

Unfortunately Atletico is weak mentally.. I cant remember how many times I have thought.. ¨this time they will challenge¨only for them to fail spectacularly..

Yeah, let's not forget that last season they gave up on even finishing in the top 4, halfway through the season. And in the end did well in the Cups. Despite these signings, they still don't have a big enough squad to compete in all competitions...so some prioritisation will be in order once again.

I think you also lamented that Barcelona did not have a 'squad to compete in all competitions' the year you won the treble. Or was that last year? Probably every year actually.
Anyhow. I think Atletico would prioritse anyway. I'd say after just winning the EL last year their main focus will be finishing in the top 4 which should not be unrealistic.

No, that was only last year
In 2008-2009 I thought we were ok but in reality as the season went on, the likes of Caceres and Hleb never even got used.
This summer we have some really good youngsters on the cusp of breaking through, and there's no World Club Cup, so I think a 21 or 22 man senior squad would be good enough, provided the World Cup hangover isn't worse than expected.

RUMOURS!
*Hércules trying to sign Alberto Zapater from Genoa. Zapater just went to Italy last year and without following it too closely seemed to have a pretty decent statistical year. Will be interesting to see if the newly promoted side can tempt him back to la Liga.
*Hércules also being linked with Uruguay's WC standout Arévalo Ríos as a possibility for the centre of midfield.
*Newcastle United want to sign Mahamadou Diarra! It appears that the Maliean's wages are the primary obstacle as Madrid has told him he can go for free if there is a team interested.
*Racing trying to get two CBs signed as they only have Torrejon and Oriol, I think, on their books at the moment. They want Henrique back and as it looks like he is refusing to train perhaps Barcelona will let him go. Also, Racing could be signing David Mateos from RM Castilla. Since Canales is going to stay in Madrid, Racing are owed an additional 1m euro but would wave this fee if Mateos is allowed to join the cantabrians.
*This was from a couple of days ago but apparently Zaragoza still owe Valencia money for the signings of Arizmendi and Aimar and if they don't make payments by the end of the month they could be relegated.
*Real Madrid are going to sign Evra and Vidic.
*Filipe Luis has not traveled with the Deportivo squad to Austria for preseason training further indication that he is about to complete his move to Atletico.
*Manchester City are preparing an offer for Pedro. He will soon be replaced by Neymar. Or Robinho.

Interesting, the club obviously wants to get rid of him. It would a big loss, after having brought him for €25m.

It was Cagliari. Leave it to the Spanish rumour mill.

I'm curious where Atletico suddenly found money. Last summer they were broke...this year they've spent 12-13m on Filipe, 5m on Fanni, and ??? on Godin. Plus there's a new rumour today that they'll sell Simao and get Cazorla instead
Even if they expect Forlan to be sold and fund all that (plus Tiago), they still would need more cash to buy a replacement for him. Unless Quique's planning a 4-5-1 or something next season.

But last year they made a net profit on their transfers in both markets i I remember correctly. They didn't really buy anyone and they managed to sell the likes of Heitinga for 7m euro and Simana Pongolle for 6m euro. Even this summer they sold their third choice goalkeeper Roberto for 8m euro to Benfica. So perhaps that has given them a bit larger budget for this summer. Plus I would have thought that their run in the Europa League would have given them an injection of cash that perhaps was not expected.

Some of today's gossip:
*Osasuna may have found the replacement for Cesar Azpilicueta. Apparently Damiá has been given permission by Betis to leave their training camp to negotiate the terms of a contract with the Rojillos.
*Getafe president Angel Torres has said that they are trying to bring Dani Guiza back to Spain and specifically to Getafe to replace the departed Roberto Soldado. Guiza already played in Getafe from 2005-2007 before moving to Mallorca and then Fenerbahce.
*Pep Guardiola says that Barcelona cannot compete with Real Madrid's spending...even though they have spent more than Madrid this summer.
*Apparently van Gaal wants Rafael van der Vaart in Bayern next season triggering rumours that he could be part of a deal to bring Bastian Schweinsteiger to the Bernabeu.
*Newcastle, Everton, and Aston Villa all trailing Mahamadou Diarra. Please please please take him!
*As kas mentioned - Atletico are potentially lining up Santi Cazorla to replace Simao should the latter return to Portugal.
*Tom de Mul is close to moving to Standard Liege on a one year loan.
*Sevilla are still pushing to sign Luca Cigarini but it looks like the Italian midfielder is closer to Parma. Sevilla are still pursuing Ibrahim Afellay however and it is believed (by the writers of Estadio Deporte ) that the dutch midfielder wants to move to Spain.

FFS what pussies.
Wouldn't mind getting Schweinsteiger for VDV. It would be better if we sold him anyway because I don't believe he will accept a place on the bench. Getting Schweinsteiger would be great for us and might allow Granero to stay as well.

From my understanding Atletico is still owed by Deportivo for the Ze Castro transfer (worthless), and therefore Atletico is forgiving the money owed plus the 12 million. Sad transfer, because he deserves to play at one of the top clubs but the Lendoiro is chosing to erase some of the debt instead of pushing or holding out for a better transfer from the player's career. But what else is new, the man is just a total dick.
Can already imagine the Atletico line-up...
