La Liga side Mallorca are looking to strengthen their squad for next season by securing the additions of Albert Riera from Liverpool and Juan Albin from Getafe.

The Islanders, who defied all expectations next season to finish fifth in the Primera Division and qualify for next season’s Europa League, are suffering from financial constraints, but are still hopeful of providing a strong performance in the tournament.

They recently announced the appointment of Michael Laudrup as their manager for next season, following the departure of Gregorio Manzano, and the Danish legend looks to have drawn up a list of targets already.

Marca comments that Riera, who fell out of favour with coach Rafa Benitez at Anfield last season, would be interested in a return to La Liga, while Albin is also a possible target, but it is unlikely that Mallorca would be able to meet the wage demands of both players.

Another alternative could be Ariel Ibagaza, whose contract has expired with Villarreal, and could crave a return to the club where he spent two successful seasons from 2006 – 2008.
Not bad first moves but surely they will have little money to spend if any. I would figure that Albin would be beyond their price range as well.

Albin is available on a free transfer. Ale

    cheers
Laudrup ushered him in at Getafe so perhaps he can convince him to come. Would be a good transfer for Mallorca allthough considering that Milan were after him at some point im guesing other clubs will be interested as well.

    Some more rumours for today:

*Lass Diarra is on Del Neri's wish list for the new look Juventus according to Corriere dello Sport. There are varying rumours that he is or is not on Mourinho's list of transferible players. Seems like the consensus is that RM woud like to sell 2 of Lass, Diarra, and Gago so if a good offer comes he could well be on the move.

*City offering Robinho to Valencia! Santos cannot afford his wages and City sure as hell don't want him back. I can hardly imagine Valencia can afford to pay him 175K euro per week or whatever his ridiculous wages are.

*More Kaka rumours. Ancelotti wants him and Abramovich is willing to pay 40m euro for him. In some ways I feel like I just want to wash my hands and pretend Kaka was just a bad dream. On the other hand if we sell him for 25m less after one year then I won't be able to laugh at Chygrynskiy any more. Sad

*Atletico are trying to use the fact that Deportivo have still not paid them in full for Ze Castro to finalise the Filipe Luis transfer. It sounded like they were close to signing Rod Fanni as well but now the Rennes president is saying the two sides are quite far apart in terms of the negotiations.

*Sevilla and Valencia are both supposedly interested in Japan international Keisuke Honda. Of course AS have attributed the following quote to Honga "I always wanted to wear the Real Madrid #10". Laughing

*Interesting RM rumour: because of the exorbitant price that Inter are asking for Maicon (and fair play, why should they sell one of their best players for nothing?) Mourinho is now content with keeping Sergio Ramos as right back. That leaves Pepe, Albiol, and Garay for the centre of defence. The new name being linked with us is young Espanyol CB Victor Ruiz. Florentino does not want to spend more than 10m euro and the other names in the list (e.g. Vidic, David Luiz, etc) are going to cost a lot more than this. I think Ruiz has a buyout clause of 18 m euro but our good friends at Espanyol should be willing to negotiate. Biggrin Seriously, would be a very smart signing. Pepe, Albiol, and Garay are all fine. No need to spend a load of money on the 4th choice central defender and Ruiz looks really promising, he's young, he's cheap, he's spanish. What more can you ask for?

*Lots of 'novias' for Jermaine Pennant: Wigan, West Ham, Aston Villa, Stoke, and and Blackburn all waiting for Zaragoza to sell the English winger.

*More Man City discards could be heading to la Liga. Javier Garrido and Jo are both being linked with Real Sociedad. Garrido of course came from la Real originally before going to England but never fit into the plans at City once the arabs started signing players left and right. Jo too - I don't even know where he was last year. But he could be a really good signing (probably on loan) for la Real. Could be a decent attack with him and Joseba Llorente.

I think Jo was on loan at Everton where he didn't set the world alight. However he is a good talent and I remember when he first came up and looked quite good. Good deal and potentially a very good striker couple they will have.

Great news about Maicon not coming if true. We need to spend on that Cm and hopefully a good Lb but im getting more and more sceptical that we will ever have a solid Lb at the club. I don't know what to think about Kaka going back. In terms of balance we should get rid of him because we need a real playmaker. If we get rid of Kaka then we should go for Diego who could be gotten on the cheap and that would probably make up for the loss we take on Kaka.

Or maybe we could sneak in steal Fabregas. Laughing

    Regarding Jo:

He was bought by M.City for a huge money before 08/09 season, he didn't play much, so Everton loaned him during the winter break - he scored 6 or 7 goals for us, and we were very happy with him.

So before season 09/10 started we loaned him again, this time for a full campaign. He started okay, but he lost his interest soon, had some disagreement with Moyes and we sent him back, he finished season at Rijkaard's Galatasaray, I think he was alright there, but nothing special.

I like him as a player, thing is I see him more as a second striker, who links up very well with midfielders, than as a out and out striker. In England he was also struggling in physical contact, because his is quite weak and unfortunately, we never had a chance to use him in Cahill's position. Still, I rate him quite highly and he should be a decent transfer for Sociedad and Joseba Llorente should be a good partner for him.

    Shocked

This is from nowhere! Valero wasn't even linked with Villarreal that I can remember and it seemed like Sevilla were always likely to sign him. Anyhow, great signing for Villarreal especially having lost some of their midfielders (Pires, Ibagaza) from the past couple seasons.

Honda would be awesome for Valencia. Class player and we all know they could use the shirt sales.

I want to keep Kaka. I think he'll come good for us in the end, he just needs some time. I think Mou will be able to help get the best out of him since we'll probably we going for swift counters anyway.

Valencia can't afford Honda. But I agree he'd be a good buy, and would in all probability be more productive than Silva for them (both in terms of image revenues + actually on the pitch)

Great for Villarreal with the Borja purchase allthough I think they should go for somebody who can replace Senna eventually.
Godin is still leaving Villarreal isn't he? Would be a shame after the WC he has had.

They might have to replace Senna now! Rumour is that he is going to Qatar for a nice 'golden retirement'. Not sure how much truth there is to it.

Godin renewed his contract before the WC but apparently Milan and Inter both want him. At least he wouldn't go for free but hopefully he stays.

    Today's gossip:

*Mallorca are asking for €5,5m for Aritz Aduriz who is wanted by Valencia. Valencia are hoping that Mallorca will negotiate the price considering Aduriz wants out.

*It looks like Atletico's pursuit of Rod Fanni might be ending after the negotiations with Rennes are proving to be more difficult than first anticipated. Their new target is rumoured to be Anthony Revelliere of Lyon. Thought he was alright when he played for Valencia. Not sure how he has been playing recently.

*Fulham are hoping to sign Miguel. He is certainly not wanted by Valencia. I would think for even a modest offer Valencia will sell him just to get rid of his wages.

*Bodipo has gone to Vaslui on loan. Who is going to score the goals for Deportivo now?????? Biggrin

*German press is reporting that Raul to Schalke is a done deal. Raul is supposed to report to Valdebebas one week from today at which point there could be an announcement.

*Sporting is close to signing out of favour midfielder Sebastián Eguren from Villarreal. Eguren's been on loan since January. Sporting want a player to go with Alberto Rivera in the centre of midfield.

*Javad Nekounam could be on his way to Olympiakos. Would be a shame because he has been a pretty good player for me and another important piece gone (after Azpilicueta) for Osasuna.

*Royston Drenthe looks to be headed to Portugal for a year loan at Sporting CP.

*Barcelona still want to sign Cesc Fabregas but their maximum offer is €40m. Sounds like if they can't sign him before their Asian tour he's not coming.

*Espanyol are closing in on Pablo Barrera - they could announce his signing today.

*Mourinho has maybe signed his first africa for Real Madrid - Bruno Ecuele Manga central defender for Gabon and Angers. Who????? Luckily there are also other rumours saying he already signed for Lorient.

If you are just going to use the money to buy an attacker (Robinho), a replacement for Toure (De Jong), and a backup for Dani Alves (Zabaleta) then it really does make sense.

Something like this? Zabaleta can also play in midfield. Probs some canteranos that can fill in JDS or Thiago. Kas will probably say that the squad is 'too thin'. No Chygryggyrygrgygrygygrgygrgygrysnkiy though. Sad

Just looking at Villarreal's squad with the addition of Borja Valero. They've promoted 9 players from the B team ahead of the new season:

    -----------------------------------D. Lopez/Oliva

    Angel/Musacchio-----Gonzalo/Kiko------Godin/Catala-----Capdevila/J. Oriol

    Cazorla/Fuster----Senna/Bruno/Gullon----B. Valero/Matilla----Cani/H. Perez

    -------------------------Nilmar/M. Ruben-----Rossi/Montero

Will be interesting to see if they are able to keep Nilmar and Rossi otherwise I would think they will be forced to sign a forward. The XI looks quite strong but we'll see if the youngsters can cope.

I wonder if Atletii will move Lopez to RB? Luis is an excellent LB, but Atleti are undoutedly weaker in their RB position.

Probably need another CB + CM too, and they'd be sorted (providing they keep their other important players)

Atleti probably need 3 CBs but if they can get at least one they won't have to play Ujfalusi or Perea. ok

I thought Ujfalusi looked good in Europa League which seemed to be the only cup they cared about. I think he could do an ok job as RB so they should focus on a CB and a DM as well.

Assuming they are able to work out a deal with Tiago, they've also just brought back Mario Suarez who was excellent with Mallorca last year so I doubt they'll go for a DM/CM.

Well if they get someone to partner Dominguez who was actually very impressive last season, they should do well enough. Gettable options could be Pareja, Munoz, Ruiz, Amorebieta)

For RB, I'm a little surprised they didn't (or any other Spanish club for that matter) go for Azpilicuteta.

Agree, particularly given that Marseille only paid 7m euro for him.

But yeah Dominguez is very good, best CB they have. But the others are all sh!t as far as I'm concerned. They've been linked with Pareja and Luisao so far.
