If the linesman made one of the worst calls of the season in not seeing that Drogba was offside, his friend down the other end tried his best to outdo him by not seeing Macheda's juggling skills. Fergie's right, the officials need to sort themselves out. A game that should have ended 0-1 has ended 1-2 because of awful refereeing. The person who must be most annoyed is Cech. No clean sheet (bonus) for him due to the incompetence of officials Rolling Eyes

Is it just me or were two of the penalties against Spurs (the latter two) a bit bloody soft?

Spurs' defence were pretty terrible yesterday so I'm not arguing that the loss was undeserved, but it did seem like the referee was determined that Bent would get a hattrick. Unfortunately the big black donkey wasn't up to much from the spot but still, he got the chances.

Ref was no relation to Coops by any chance, was he?

The Macheda handball happened very quickly, coming up off the keeper, off his chest, onto his forearm/hand. It was his hand/arm that put the ball in, so the goal shouldn't have counted, but I can see why the ref and lineman missed it.

The offside, however, I have no idea about. It makes little difference, Chelsea deserved to win regardless of refereeing decisions, but that offside was pretty embarrassing.

I stand by my assessment of the Jerkoff challenge on Park - it was a foul, but was on the edge of the area and a penalty would have been harsh. Neville's foul on Anelka should have been a penalty. Overall the officials were pretty poor, though they were bad all over the pitch and it didn't particularly benefit either team.

it was certainly unusual to see a referee give 3 penalties in one game to the same team, on another day with another ref at least two of them wouldnt be given because its so unusual, but i think only the final one was a close call, first two were clear cut. Everything appeared to go against us, but because it was a poor sluggish performance without any leadership. Deserved a hiding, and thankful in the end it wasnt worse. Hopefully harry will never play kaboul and bassong together at centre back Again. Neither has the leadership qualities required to organise a back line. Id prefer to see huddlestone in that position, at least he will take responsibility and get the team talking. Also, modric needs to play on the left, he just doesnt work in the centre with palacios, he is too light weight a cm in the premier league.

    I agree about Modric.

The beginning of the end for Juande Ramos was going to the North East playing Modric as part of a 2 man CM away to 'boro on the opening day of the season.

They got bossed in midfield and lost.

'arry should never have played someone so lightweight away to a Steve Bruce team - it won't cause his sacking like Ramos but it could be the day that the CL got away.

There should be a law against City playing Adebayor, Tevez, Bellamy and Adam Mother Fucking Jinky Johnson in the same team before the watershed.

I'm not convinced about the Modric-Campbell penalty. The runner pushes the ball across the box, Modric sticks out a foot and doesn't get the ball, Campbell starts going down before Modric even makes contact, and he doesn't go over the outstretched leg but just runs into Modric's body.

Modric doesn't get the ball, and leaves a leg trailing but the striker was completely looking for it, making no effort to actual fashion a shooting position, and dived. To me, that's not a penalty.

I agree that Modric needs to be playing in a wide position, or at least in an AM position behind a striker. He isn't a CM, not for this league.

Johnson's looking on fire. Starting to think he's a good wildcard for the World cup squad. If he's keeping SWP out of the City team, he's gotta be keeping him out of the WC squad.

I think SWP is competing with Walcott for a place, and with no clear sign of when Lennon's going to be back I think Johnson just might have played himself into the squad. Milner's one of Capello's favourites so barring injuring he'll be in the squad.

In his defence, it worked. Just. Smile. I can see his logic, to put out a very tired/weakened team at the Camp Nou could turn a rape into a murder. We need to go there with our heads held high and play our best. A club like Arsenal can't admit defeat before it started.

    ============================================

Re new signings, as Ray picked up, I would like a pure DM. Song is so good on the the ball that playing a pure DM alongside him and Cesc (touchwood) for difficult games would, imo, still provide great enough fluidity in midfield.

Milner's a given. I think Walcott's also a given to be honest. Capello clearly rates him from what he did in qualifying & he has started to show form again since he came under heavy criticism.

On current form/fitness I'd perhaps go Johnson, A.Young, J.Cole, Walcott as wide men as that would give nice balance of options off the bench.

(I'm thinking of Milner as more a CM nowadays)

I thought Downing would sneak in, but I don't think he's done enough for Villa this season.

Lennon is looking more a question mark. I don't even know what the injury is?

Id certainly prefer to see jinky in the squad than swp. He clearly has a good footballing brain to go with the natural ability. Always worth having that unknown factor on the bench- opposition sides will not know much about him, and having a left footer who can play on the right is very useful. Saints- as much as id love to agree about the modric challenge on campbell, there was contact and luka got nowhere near the ball. Campbell made the most of it, but it was clear cut and a very silly attempt to make in the box. We got everything we deserved. Thats What happens when we play a central defender schooled in the newcastle united art of how to get relegated, playing without dawson or king or woody to hold his hand.

    Adam MOTHERFUCKING Johnson Ale

I'd be surprised if Downing doesnt go to the world cup to be honest..just because Capello always seems to pick him when he's fit, and seems to trust him for that bench role.

I would love to see Johnson go though..just shouldnt be allowed to take a pen. As although he scored quite a few pens for us, he took quite a few dodgy ones.
