Ronaldo was amazing at this. Do nothing for 90 minutes except whine and fall over, score a penalty and a toe punt free kick, and next day he was the greatest player ever.

Roll your eyes all you want. One of my best mates is a season ticket holder at United, goes home and away- obsessed. He would say this a lot, particularly in his last season. I'll take his word for it alongside what I saw with my own eyes. Incredibly self obsessed, selfish player, and hugely overrated to boot Ale
Better than anything to ever grace White Hart Lane.

Fair enough. Still a petulant, repulsive c**t who will never be as good as he thinks he is. The most overrated free kick taker I've ever seen aswell. Just toe punts it, 1 out of 30 attempts goes in, swerving all the place. Skill? No, just toe punted. And never passed Laugh

He thinks he is the best in the world but he isn't only three are better.

His freekicks are good when they come off but its very rarely,as for skill? he is the most skillful player ever to grace EPL.

as much as you try and find defaults about the guy he would walk into any club/national team.

    .

Most definitely not EM. Most effective sure, but there are plenty more on a skill and vision level above him. He is the perfect mix of pace, power, aggression and selfishness. Skill is not something you would naturally associate him with but I guess it all depends on your definition of skill or technique.

Most skilfull player to ever grace the EPL Laugh Laugh

I'd forgotten how distorted your opinion on the Premiership was. No player is complete unless playing in a Latin league, with a latin player and latin complexion Ale

Ronaldo had some tricks for sure, some stepovers, an excellent blend of technical ability, strength and speed.

But at the end of the day, he ran fast and was strong. Was he a skilled passer, playing it off both feet, was he even a great dribbler? No.

He was no Gianfanco Zola, no Dennis Bergkamp, no Eric Cantona, no Juninho in terms of natural technical ability.

So is ronaldo - they score goals due to sheer volume of shots on target - ie the complete opposite of incredibly good finishers.

ronaldo and Lampard are the 2 most soulless players I've ever seen - football by numbers.

They rarely shoot for the corners - ronaldo had an appauling goals to shot ratio in last seasons CL.

Lampard is summed up by the shot for Kalou's 2nd - get it on target and you may get a corner or a rebound.

Its joyless and it whilst its effective over the course of the season you don't get many shots in the big games and that's when the better finishers may thrive.

Both are good finishers but both take a lot of shots from outside the area which makes their goals to shots ratio poor.

    scratch

The rest of your post - I won't deny: I'm not a fan of either player, however Ronaldo is hailed as the best in the World and Lampard is pilloried as one dimensional. Ronaldo is considerably better allround thanks to his speed and technique, however both vacate somewhere inbetween. Neither excite me in any way, unless they are hitting wondergoals. And for me, Lampard is the better striker of the ball. Don't agree he shoots continuosly- against us at the Lane he had 3 shots and scored once. He's a lot more efficient these days than in the past if you ask me Ale

    Bollocks.

Even when Lampard finishes inside the box he usually plays it down the middle.

What you are saying is that if you can hit the ball within an 8ft by 8 yard area from within 20 yards you're a good finisher.

...and do we really have to see Bleakley's teeth on MOTD everytime he scores now ?

I know you're taking the piss but what you're saying is true. There are dozens of attacking players in this league who would rather keep possession by passing and dribbling than they would risk their reputation by taking a shot. There are also lots of players like Darren Gibshot and Fwank Lumpard who literally shoot whenever they are near the goal and have enough time on the ball to hit it properly.

The former type of player tends to get a relatively low goals-games ratio and the latter a high ratio, but that proves little about their ability and far more about their mentality. Now, I'd rather have the second type (Lampard) than the first type (Hleb), but I reckon that the very best players don't either waste or hog the ball.

But you have to be in the position to shoot right ?

If you are playing as one of the 2 CM's you will need some discipline so there will be a limit on how many times you manage to get forward in 90 mins.

You look at the goals Lampard scored v Stoke, Spurs and Villa from strikers positions and you know that no one could do that if they were playing CM - we're actually going to play him there at a world cup Shocked

Don't think it's been mentioned, but Wazzzzzzzza has won the Fans POTY(a couple of days ago) and now the Football Writers POTY.

The latter having won 81% of the vote ahead of Drogba and Tevez.
