Just read this Premier League transfer blog on the worst signing made this season, and i have to agree that Alberto Aquiliani for £20 million has to be the single worst piece of business. He has rarely played and showed nothing to justify that piece of business. What does other people think? Is Aquilani, who is looking nothing more than an Italian version of Darren Anderton with his injury problems, going to ever come good in the Premier League.

Re: Worst Premier League signing
tbf, the only times that Liverpool have appeared a decent footballing outfit is when he's been on the pitch. Rafa was too slow in integrating him.

Re: Worst Premier League signing
Aquilani probably hasn't had enough game time to show if he's worth that kind of money or not. His injury history suggests it was a silly gamble though.
I would say only Lescott has been a bit of a flop as well for the money paid when there are far better defenders out there.
P.S. the article spelt Xabi Alonso, 'Xavi Alonso' therefore it's gay.

The guy's been ere 2 mins FFS! I can understand people wanting an instant return as tbe fee paid was extortioante, but not everyone settles in straigt away.
I think in the 4-2-3-1 formation, Rafa should swap him and Gerrard round.

Re: Worst Premier League signing
Santa Cruz has been rather a waste (not that City really care about such things). Nearly 20m for a backup big striker, who's been injured lots and scored little. Blackburn must be glad to have cashed in when his stock was still high.

Yeah he would get my vote because unlike Aquilani, any football fan with an ounce of knowledge about the global game knew his season at Blackburn was a flash in the pan. He's a good player, but far too injury prone to ever be consistent the way he was that one season. But as you say, 17m for an injury prone player is a gamble City can afford...Aquilani's signing was a grave mistake by Benitez because it's not a gamble Liverpool could afford.

Re: Worst Premier League signing
his record when starting is W7 D1 L0 IIRC
in terms of amount paid and expectation he's clearly the biggest flop, but there isn't much competition and as Rafa said, he signed for 5 years not 5 months. If he's slung out the door like Robbie Keane then he's definitely a flop.
How would he compare to high profile signings overseas?

A bit misleading, given that pretty much all his starts have been in relatively easy home games. You've been strong at home all season, but crap away and the only away game he started was the smash-and-grab at Villa ( ) which he didn't have a lot do with.
