I voted the bottom option. People do look back with tinted vision what Messi is doing now is the limit...he cant do much more and Ronaldo wouldn't have done much more either.

I thought the comparison was Ronaldo 97 vs Messi 10. Ronaldo didn't play CL football in 97.

But for a side, which was very comfortable in defending too as a unit, aften having 2 DMs and playing with one striker. Same goes for Italy NT.

I don't want to question Nesta's ability, because I really rate him, and he's one of the few Italian players I don't hate, but would love to see him playing in his prime outside of his comfort zone. Not necessary in circumstances like Samuel, when he was put in position to fail from the start (playing alongside aging Hierro, with two crazy attacking full backs and poor protection from midfield), but some other scenario than Serie A/Italy would be interesting.

His lack of place would always be a problem 1 v 1 , and he's got a turning circle of a tank. Play him in a system where those deficiencies cannot be easily exposed( like at Inter for example) and he'll look class, play him in La Liga where defenders are probably exposed than any other major league in Europe and you'd see the sort of performances at Madrid. He's great defender in his own right but i'm not a fan of defenders of his ilk coz they limit your tactical options, for example if u are a goal down and want to play 1 v 1 at the back, u can't do that with someone like Samuel.
