So who would be your 5 penalty takers? and do you feel confident about them?

    For Italy:
    1. Pirlo
    2. Iaquinta
    3. De Rossi
    4. Di Natale
    5. Gilardino/Pazzini

Good on paper, but maybe chokers like Di Natale, De Rossi and Gilardino won't be able to handle the pressure.

We just lost the best penalty taker in the world, and another excellent one will not even be in the squad. Fuck knows who is going to take the penalties now.

England's problem is scoring first, penalties seem to favour the team who scored last and has the momentum at the end of the match. Which is usually not England.

That's nonsense. There is no God given right for Germany to win penalty shootouts. We win shootouts because normally, we have excellent penalty takers and goalkeepers. This time however, we lost a number of great penalty takers, have no hierarchy in the team yet, so nobody can seriously say who will take the penalties for us, and how we will do.

I honestly think this will be the year that Germany will lose a penalty shoot out.

It's only a matter of time before it happens.

Whilst this German team probably has more technically adept footballers than it's had since 1996, that unnerving self belief and arrogance of past teams looks sparse.

And I agree, you don't have a Kahn or Lehmann in goal. Big goalkeepers with faces to scare children.

I think Kroos may become an excellent penalty taker. His shooting technique is awesome, and he is very confident. Can see Khedira doing well also. Maybe Thomas Müller, too? At least he has the confidence.

But true, as I said, still very unproven.

I'm fairly sure he missed one vs Arsenal at Anfield as well.

    we also have JANSEN

who has been superb at taking penalties for HSV

Kroos is also the kind of cool chap who would convert one

I also have a hunch that Löw will go with BUTT in goal, rather than Neuer or Wiese

    BUTT is fantastic at penalties

    so

    Polid, Schweini, Butt, Jansen, Kroos

    still, I agree

we could EASILY lose a penalty shoot-out under Löw

Luis go youtube the portugal penalty shoot out. Gerrard was a nervous wreck before a pen was even taken. It was no surprise he missed. He seems a much better penalty taker now so maybe he'll be more confident.......but im not sure.

Maybe I've slightly over egged it. He just doesn't ooze confidence for me though when he's stepping up for a penalty.

Lampard is the best Englander at penalties by far and he seems to have improved a lot at them over the past four years (fingers crossed).

Rooney obviously is now the Utd penalty taker and he's got a winners mentality.

Ashley Cole is a bit of a penalty specialist. Again with him I'd be relatively confident.

And Milner is a bit like rooney - he's also Villa's penalty taker.

I just find gerrard a bit too readable - like he is with his back passes -I'd just feel that a top class keeper would be able to outwit him in the penalty mind games more than they could the other 4.
