What? Are you serious? I've seen Gerrard miss plenty!

Out of the five six listed I'd be the least confident about Gerrard taking a penalty.

Not sure on his recent record but I did a quick google search and found that back in 2006, his conversion rate was 80%

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1083580/Whos-Daddy-12-yards-Tell-favourite-penalty-taker-time.html

Which ain't great. Its not bad either mind.

I cant really recall Gerrard missing a pen in the last few years. But i wouldn't be confident with him taking a big one for England.

I don't understand this logic, there's no difference between taking a pen for your club in a CL game or taking one at a WC. Would you feel more confident with Milner taking a pen?

Luis go youtube the portugal penalty shoot out. Gerrard was a nervous wreck before a pen was even taken. It was no surprise he missed. He seems a much better penalty taker now so maybe he'll be more confident.......but im not sure.

Sometimes you miss pens, sometimes you score them, I'm sure all the players are slightly nervous whether it's a crucial club game or a crucial international game. Gerrard has a better penalty taking record than porbably anyone in the England team bar Lampard and Rooney.

Penalty takers are fine, but what about the keeper? Why does everyone always forget this very important aspect? You need to save some to win.

There probably is no keeper in the world atm. with a better record at saving pens than Wiese. The stats are out of this world when you think about it, he had saved most penalties, as the commentator said prior to Robben taking his last week.

Look at it on 0.20 It's just one missed pen but he looks like England have lost. And then he missed after. The thing is Portugal DID miss a pen and it's always likely they'll miss one so IMO his reaction showed he didn't beleive England could win it.

The U21 guy with the big fat grin? AFAIR, the English U21 side won the penalty shootout against Sweden, right?

Not bad, but Sweden aren't exactly known to be world beaters at it.

Who will start in the goal for England? Would be quite an embarassment to sub him for the pens though, wouldn't exactly give him any confidence.

Ozil, you're a facking leg-end. This sentence is just awesome.

    Well done.

As for this discussion on penalties,

I predict Lampard and Co. will RAPE all over the mannshaft at their own game in the 2nd round when England meet Germany.

It'll go down to penalties, and John Terry will score the winner. Low will be wearing a scarf. Basti fantasti will be crying. In that order Ale

Haven't got a clue! I think possibly James, but Green has been starting every competitive game up to now.

His form's been shite in the past few months though.

Hart has been amazing in the league this season but he lacks the experience - he's only got one cap.

Will be interesting to see who plays against Mexico on Monday.

If it came purely down to ability to strike the ball, you'd be hard pushed to look past the Dutch:

    Van Persie
    VDV
    Sneijder
    Robben

are all brilliant strikers of the ball. I'd still back the German's over them though.

I remember Carragher coming on for Lennon after 120 minutes to take a penalty last World Cup. Such found memories. Only decent penalty was Hargreaves.

When have you seen Ashley Cole take a pen last? I love how not taking penalties makes someone a better penalty taker.

Hargreaves has a good mentallity his pen v portugal was almost saved though. I think in training Gerrard and Rooney would be the best in a high pressure situation probably Hargreaves.

Nah it was Terry he said so at the time and he also scored one in 2004. I'm not saying Cole isnt a good pen taker just that scoring 2-3 in pen shoot outs and then being rated ahead of lampard and gerrard who can score 9+ in a row and take them regularly is a bit absurd to me.
