Name anyone who is better than Cole apart from Hargreaves?

Why did England's second best penalty taker allow Carragher to take one ahead of him in 2006?

Maybe Cole was going to take the 5th penalty

Nah it was Terry he said so at the time and he also scored one in 2004. I'm not saying Cole isnt a good pen taker just that scoring 2-3 in pen shoot outs and then being rated ahead of lampard and gerrard who can score 9+ in a row and take them regularly is a bit absurd to me.
But they both miss when it really matters

? Lampard scored in 04 v portugal and the cl final in 08 the same two things you were using as a reason to show Cole was great at pens in big situations

I remember Carragher coming on for Lennon after 120 minutes to take a penalty last World Cup. Such found memories. Only decent penalty was Hargreaves.

Please skipp Sneijder. He will never take a penalty. He knows he'll choke. He also knows he is not good in at. The last one he took one was somewhere in the D-pupils of Ajax. On that he has great company. Cruijff also never took penalties...

I seen Lampard miss penalties including two this season but never seen Ashley Cole miss.

Not confident we could beat any of the big teams on pens.

That's about right. The weak link is Gerrard. I'm trying to think if there is anyone we could bring on as a sub that's agood penalty taker. Is Parker any good? Defoe possibly? or Johnson (Adam)?
Baines did look very comfortable converting penalty... on two occasions I've had a chance to see him doing it.
Btw - Dunga should take Anderson from MU just for the sake of scoring a penalty, or Belletti - both were awesome in MU-Chelsea CL final, coming in after 120 minutes. Anderson also scored a few ones I think, it's probably his biggest strength Laugh

How can you even know who is the best now, for any team that is?

Historically, it's Germany, no other country comes even close (a single missed penalty in WC history (Stielike in 1982, not decisive), won every shootout bar the Euro 1976 one against CSSR - two missed penalties in the entire German football history altogether).

But what does that say about the current team of unproven youngsters?

Certainly our chances at pens are boosted by Beckham's absence but I can't see James or Green saving any.

Lampard has missed in a World Cup, an FA Cup Final and a big game at Man City TBF.

    scratch

Green has 6 penalty saves in the past 3 years in the EPL, James has 4. There the best in the league and presumably some of the best in the world, Hart's the one who has 1 penalty save in the last 3 years in the EPL.

Doyle, Benjani, Defoe, Roberts, Ashley Young.

He saved a penalty against Gerrard which would have counted in a penalty shoot out, but as it went back into Gerrard's path he scored.

Also went the right way on a Ronaldo miss.

Young is poor, defoe is an awful penalty taker and none of the others are renowned pen takers - he's had a lucky streak Razz

He's a shit keeper anyway and shouldn't be anywhere near the team.

    15 games? affraid affraid

    Name these 15 games

    Well
v Wigan away. United won 0-5 he scored and assisted
v Bolton away. United won 0-4 he assisted two of the goals
v Portsmouth home. United won 5-0 he assisted 2 of the goals
    v Fulham at home
    v Arsenal away
    v Bayern home
    v Milan at home
    v Spurs at home
    v Sunderland away
Off the top of my head i'll retrace and find more. Think he ended up with 16 assists and 5 goals for someone who missed 3 months of the season.
Wigan not sure. Against Bolton he was horrible apart from turning Ricketts inside and outside for Berbatov's goal,Milan at home he done nothing apart from an assist.

As for Tottenham and Sunderland games he scored in both games but his overall play was horrible so based on two bits of pieces Nani pulls off in a game it makes him World Class? Embarassed Embarassed
