Guys - what's the deal with Guardiola telling Rosell that he's ready to step down?
What are you saying?

Toure deal will be announced today.
And I don't understand why SPORT is running with Torres stories for the past 2/3 days

Apparently the deal is in place, but will only be formalised if Ibrahimovic is sold. So it's not 100% yet. But hopefully this means no Robinho

I completely agree.. why would we buy Mata? I would much rather keep Ibra and play Villa on the left rotating with Pedro at times.. Ibra offers strenght and height (target man) while Mata is more or less Pedro but a bit more direct, but I think that Pedro has proven that he has no problem scoring.

I agree that he is a very good player, but I think he is too similar to what we already have.
I am also very happy that Pep is betting on young Spanish players without huge egos, but I would rather sign a player like Azpilicueta from Osasuna if we want to sign a young Spanish player since a right back is more needed than a new left sided attacker.

Chygrinsky sold back to Shakhtar
Fee is around 15m euros, so we would be making a loss of around 8-10m for just 1 year
(though I saw one story - not sure how true it is - saying that Barça don't lose anything, because they had only paid the first 50% installment last year...the other 50% was due this year).
tbh I'm a bit disappointed to see him go. He was young and should have had time to prove himself. I doubt any other Barça fans are sad that he's sold though.
I hope this means one of the kids gets promoted, *not* Marquez staying
------------
New rumour: Robinho plus 20m from City for Ibrahimovic. Not sure if it's just wishful thinking by SPORT or genuinely true, although for a change they haven't based it on some dodgy English tabloid rumour.

I gues you will be buying yet more defenders. Is it me or does the big clubs in Spain have more difficulty buying good defenders then other big clubs do?

It seems to me that a lot of defenders that come to la liga struggle with the openness of the Spanish game. There is a lot more 1 v 1 defending that you have to do and teams don't defend as blocks. The through pass is a lot more prevalent in Spain compared to other leagues as well.
Villarreal's done alright with the likes of Gonzalo, Godin, and it looks like they've gotten it right again with Musacchio.
Madrid and Barcelona have absolutely gotten it wrong for the most part. Only Pepe and Marquez (despite what kas may say) are genuine successes in terms of defenders brought in from other leagues.
I think the recipe is to buy either defenders from Spain or S. America (unless they are Henrique or Caceres). They seem to be the most able to cope with la liga attackers.

I know and I think what I wrote is still applicable. Gonzalo has had some epic performances in the CL, especially against Man U a couple years ago. Pepe and Marquez have also performed well in CL.
Most of the other big names (Cannavaro, Samuel, Chyg - oh wait, he wasn't eligible for CL - Ujfalusi, etc.) have not really succeeded in any level.

I have rarely been impressed with Spanish sides defending in Cl at least in the knockout stages. Nor so with Pepe or Marquez or at least not compared with defenders for other good sides. I always get the sense that Spanish sides defenders don't play at the same level as Inter's/Milan's/Juventus'/Man Utd's/Chelsea's/Liverpool's.Jaime wrote:Super Laudrup wrote:But im thinking of defenders who can play well both in Spain but also when they play in Cl where you meet different type of teams.Jaime wrote:Super Laudrup wrote:Is it me or does the big clubs in Spain have more difficulty buying good defenders then other big clubs do?

Yeah but that is because in general Spanish teams don't really defend as blocks like the English and Italian teams (well, that is until Mourinho...) so the defenders always look exposed. This even happens to Barcelona (when they don't happen to have the ball).

Re: FC Barcelona - Campeones de España!
Well I guess Rossell is busy making his mark now.. I wouldnt mind giving either Caceres another chance or letting Henrique show what he is worth.
I really like Caceres, mainly due to his speed and the fact that he can play in different positions and Henrique has done well at the clubs where he was on loan.
Still I expect Botia and Muniesa to get promoted.
Apart from that, then I hope, when Rossell is finished trying to prove how horrible Laporta was as a president, that we can get back to normal and buy a DM and a RB.
To be honest then I dont think we should obsess anymore about Cesc. Great player but let him come when his contract is closer to finishing and Xavi isnt a first choice anymore.
