Re: Deutschland vs Ghana
Hope Boateng has a good match as LB, like he did against Bayern for HSV earlier this season. He is no fullback either, but he has pace.
Auf gehts Deutschland!

ARD now say that Jerome Boateng will play on the right (RB), which means that Lahm is moved to the left.

Entertaining game.
You can see the German fear of playing England.
I get the feeling Germany are gonna fluke their way into the USA/Korea/Uruguay section

When Cacau screamed "SHUT THE FUCK UP" at Muller, good thing or bad thing for Germany? I've seen that sparked a team many times, and many times it tore it up.

Jogi got his scarf out for today again I see.
Still, Germany are pretty shit so far, I think that 4-0 against a 10 men Australia made the team look better then they actually are.

To be honest Australia have been very refreshing with their very direct style and I could have survived if they made it through. Nonetheless this will be absolutely wonderful because I can go out on Saturday and get hammered and if Ghana win it will be great and if not then I can drink it away.
Plus we get armagedon GERMANY VS ENGLAND

Re: Deutschland vs Ghana
Phew....knew that this difficult situation was going to be a real challenge for our young team, and actually expected a close match.
Nervous beginning by us, Ghana played really well, pressed early and made life difficult for us. Our passing was too sloppy at times, not enough movement off the ball, and most importantly, not enough aggression. The latter was likely due to all the bookings a lot of our key players got in the Serbia match, so it was very positive that only Müller got booked today (his first yellow card).
I have to criticise the Werder players today, Mertesacker in particular. This hasn't been his WC so far, he was rather disappointing in the Serbia match already, but today he really had an awful match. He was more or less directly responsible for most of the chances Ghana created. Özil, despite his great goal, was rather disappointing also. He missed another sitter, was too careless at times, quite a few sloppy passes which are not typical for him. After the Australia match, when the Özil wankathon began, I said that his wastefulness could cost us against good teams, that he needs to be more clinical, and it almost did. He redeemed himself with the goal, which was awesome. Hope that this will give him the confidence he needs to score more important goals in the coming matches.
Khedira was a bit disappointing also, especially in the first half. His defensive positioning wasn't good at times. Cacau was a bit anonymous, too. He worked hard and moved a lot, not being very productive though. But to be fair, he didin't get that much support.
Schweinsteiger was MOTM for me, Friedrich had an excellent match, too. Boateng looked relatively comfortable as LB, a mature performance that may have not been perfect, but solid. Neuer had a good match, too. Lahm did well, but he needs to improve the coordination with Mertesacker. Too much space on his side at times.
I'm glad that we won our group and qualified for the next round. Against England, Schweinsteiger will be of utmost importance, hope that he is not seriously injured and can play. It will be important to stick to the 4-2-3-1 system and not listen to wannabe 'experts' like Breitner who propose a 4-4-2. Especially if England continue with the 4-4-2 system which won them the first match today, winning the upper hand in the midfield will be key. Klose will be back, a more 'natural' choice for the lone striker position up front.
Congrats to Ghana for qualifying for the next round, as the only African team. They have a lot of talented players, a good team that could cause a few surprises in the coming weeks. Congrats to the referee also, who had a good match. I had expected the worst.
Bring it on England!

Re: Deutschland vs Ghana
Ghana are so frustrating with their tendency never to shoot at the right time. They either punt it from 30 yards with no hope or don't hit it quick enough when they do have a good chance in the box.
Still, glad they've gone through and they've got a good chance now of progressing. Would've been a real shame if all African teams had been KO'd.
For German, nice goal by Peter Lorre
But they've set themselves up a horrid 2R match against, oooh The Mighty England

In a way, I'm glad that today's performance left a lot of room for improvement. Euphoria would have been the wrong mood prior to the knock-out stages.

On a morning from a Bogart movie
In a country where they turn back time
You go strolling through the crowd like Peter Lorre
Contemplating a crime
She comes out of the sun in a silk dress running
Like a watercolour in the rain
Don't bother asking for explanations
She'll just tell you that she came
In the year of the cat
She doesn't give you time for questions
As she locks up your arm in hers
And you follow 'till your sense of which direction
Completely disappears
By the blue tiled walls near the market stalls
There's a hidden door she leads you to
These days, she says, I feel my life
Just like a river running through
The year of the cat
Well, she looks at you so cooly
And her eyes shine like the moon in the sea
She comes in incense and patchouli
So you take her, to find what's waiting inside
The year of the cat
Well, morning comes and you're still with her
And the bus and the tourists are gone
And you've thrown away the choice and lost your ticket
So you have to stay on
But the drum-beat strains of the night remain
In the rhythm of the new-born day
You know sometime you're bound to leave her
But for now you're going to stay
In the year of the cat

Re: Deutschland vs Ghana
just very briefly
FUCK
FUCK
FUCK
we are getting progressively WORSE
the "german" in me thinks: three points + group win = mission accomplished
the KO stage has nothing to do with the group stage
so who cares ?!
the "GERMAN" in me though thinks:
FUCK
FUCK
FUCK
das war ein SUPERGAU
ein TOTALAUSFALL
JÄMMERLICH
the only decent performances tonight were those of
Schweini and Friedrich (maybe Jansen)
the rest were an INSULT to the German SHIRT
more about this tomorrow
I am still too shocked
this game against England is A LOT MORE OPEN than it SHOULD BE
----------
PS
I blame LÖW 100% for this nonsense
PPS
THIS is the most UNGERMAN Mannschaft I can remember
like
EVER
even the DFB organisation is a FARCE
already we noticed a few days ago that Löw did not have the foggiest when the yellow cards would be cancelled
the JOURNALISTS ALL knew it
even the DFB spokesman knew it
Löw did NOT
Löw also had been completely unaware of the reputation of the Spanish REF
German journalists knew about it though and pointed out that Antic had WARNED the Serbian players about it
God only knows what Siegenthaler is doing
TONIGHT
maybe only tweeds and myself noticed that something was STRANGE
the Germany shirts did NOT match the SHORTS
wahre G
I only noticed it because I have always been impressed about the ALL-BLACK New Zealand uniforms
and also like the current ALL-WHITE England Umbro kit
which is why I was disappointed when Germany presented their current home and away kits as black/white and white/black
TONIGHT though
we were ALL-BLACK: which looked great initially
but then I noticed that the black shorts were those belonging to the white shirts
the Adidas STRIPES of the shorts were WHITE, whereas the stripes on the shirts were GOLD
THIS makes NO SENSE AT ALL
and suggests CHAOS behind the scenes of the Mannschaft DFB operation
think about it

Re: Deutschland vs Ghana
Poldi fucks up too many moves and chances otto. At this level, we simply can't afford that, it will cost us against stronger opposition. If he doesn't get his act together soon, Löw has to bench him.
