    Doh
Though we shouldn't expect a Cronaldo fan to appreciate Van Persie's subtly beautiful performance today.

    lol!

Subtly beautiful in that he let all the other attacking players do the actual work while he showed off his first touch but achieved nothing.

What, score two not particularly impressive headed goals and not do much else? I'd rather he just perform as he did today. Except make sure that Pocket Lampard doesn't get any goals...

    Yes, that'll do.

No one would care about his performance 10 years down the line

Runloldo is better than RVP but the latter is far more talented.

However, I think Shaz must be on a wind up as he was shit tonight.

I'll put my hands up and admit I thought he'd have a great tournament.

He clearly wasn't. As a Striker/TM he was shit. As a SS he was great when the ball was played to his feet. You'll have to watch it again. His first touches were amazing. And his quick passes were always clever.

Clutching at some very desperate straws here Shaz. Just because it was a 6/10 performance from him instead of a 1/10 doesn't mean you have to lavish the Arsenal praise on him for no reason at all.

I'm genuinely serious. Are you disputing that whenever he received the ball to his feet he made a positive attacking contribution (other than 2-3 occasions)?

He could have easily got 4 assists and should have got 2.

it wasn't impossible to spot. I saw it live without the replay.

off-side it was, in a moment when Uruguay were dsominating and playing better.

but that's ok. as I've said, winning teams should deal with ref mistakes, and Uruguay almost did it. I'm proud of them. I'm much sadder than when Brazil was beaten.

From now on, in international football, I'm a Uruguay fan. ok

    Really?

Don't think they were close until the last seconds and that in itself was a ref mistake. Not sure why he played over a minute and a half extra

It looked more offside than it actually was, and although their bodies were level, I think he was just off. Almost impossible for the linesman to get right, although you would think the natural inclination would be to raise the flag because of the way it looked.

I guess there's a distinction between whether he thought Van Persie was onside (which is understandable) or whether he thought he was offside but not interfering which would be harder to justify.

obviously, he didn't spot it. I'm not saying Uruguay were robbed. But it wasn't impossible to see, as some people are saying.

    @lrd

the ref gave more extra-time cause Uruguay scored after the ref had given 3 minutes. so he added some more time. if you can't understand that, you're a c**t of the first order. ok

Clearly Tabárez feels robbed, but since he's a public figure representing his whole country, he's very clever as to how to go about it.

"Even though obviously we weren't in their plans, we showed them that we weren't too far. I am proud of my team, even though how we lost".

Did you hear that Fatso? Tabárez will have vent his anger in private like any public figure should do. However, that does not hide the fact of the corruption that went on rampant beginning with the quarterfinals where the two out of the three remaining euro teams got all the calls from Blatter's refs.

I'm willing to bet that Germany would've also gotten a push by the ref, but they never needed any help did they! Unlike Holland and Spain.

Holland are unbelievably flukey. Fey has often said that Italy wasn't a deserving champion in 2006 but this Holland side has been quite poor. The one time a team really attacked them they looked so weak in defence and otherwise they have had all sorts of luck.

Vs Denmark, own goal after struggling the entire match

Vs Japan, keeper not being able to handle Sneidjer's shot

Vs Brazil, outplayed until Cesar let them in the game

I thought the goal was offside and I strongly disagree that it was impossible to call. The replay shows it was a thighter decision then it looked but that is exactly the point. It was offside but looked more obvious when I saw it live. Really feel for Uruguay who impressed me in this tournament and im with Mongrel on this one.

    Uruguay Ale

Holland won all qualifying games now all world cup games. It is a bit naive to call it flukey. They never even draw in 90 minutes.

    Doh
Though we shouldn't expect a Cronaldo fan to appreciate Van Persie's subtly beautiful performance today.

Clutching at some very desperate straws here Shaz. Just because it was a 6/10 performance from him instead of a 1/10 doesn't mean you have to lavish the Arsenal praise on him for no reason at all.

I'm going to join in with the majority on this one Laugh

wtf is 'subtly beautiful' supposed to mean? COTR is right, he put an average performance, a 6/10 or even 7/10 if we are generous, but that doesn't mean you produce a biased interpretation of every touch of his and make it appear like there's something there that just wasn't.

Anyway, well done to Holland, I think they deserve to be in the final.

I don't think they're "lucky". Their current style is clearly not the classic 'total football' approach we expect from Dutch teams, but that doesn't mean they don't know what they're doing.

IMO because we as fans are failing to understand their system/tactics/mentality properly - or at least, failing to come to grips with this new Dutch style - we are branding it "fluke" or "lucky". Like lrd said, their recent record is just phenomenal and doesn't happen by chance.

Uruguay will have won a lot of fans though. I was impressed by them yesterday. Rios was very good, and especially Caceres...feared the worst when he was up against Robben, but he only got beaten twice IIRC, and put in some crucial last ditch tackles. Was decent going forward too, and his Stoke throw-ins are a bonus.

(yes, I'm hoping his game last night convinces someone to buy him off Barça Biggrin )
