But it's exactly where Huddlestone i Modric have done well - being outnumbered in centre midfield they make sure to move the ball quickly to advanced wingers, they offered good ball movement allowing Lennon and Bale to attack City's fullbacks. Simple, but it worked well to some point.Super Laudrup wrote:I don't think that they are clearly on line. Just now Yaya Toure was positioned as a lone Dm in the build up. And watching the match its clear that both are playing alongside De Jong in a line, hardly getting close to Silva. Tevez has to drop deep to create any sort of opportunity. I do not understand Mancini's tactics here at all.

Tevez has been too selfish and ball hogging. It is ok to drop deep which he did last season quite well at times. However some times he just runs towards the ball and wants to take it off players. Totally forgot about Johnson. In that case it is indeed crazy that he didn't start while SWP did.
This does smell like a smash and grab. Hopefully City scores soon so we get an exciting finish to a good game.

Exactly what I have been thinking as well.shazlx wrote:Except Pav is tall and arguably better at making attacking headers. Not only that, his footwork would bring in other players allowing Spurs to dominate further. And Defoe only scores goals when he's scoring goals. No big team and wannabe big team should be starting with these players. Crouch shouldn't even be in the squad.COTR wrote:Redknapp probably thought with two crossing wingers he would be better to play Crouch and a goal scorer beside him.
Would love to see Gio get a run in this team but it is hard to see where Harry is going to play him.
Both Pav and Ngog coming on
Even when he is scoring im not that impressed. I would be very impressed he managed to make a dent in CL against a good team. He doesn't offer enough imo even when he is in good form. Also I think Gio would be better on the right as a winger cutting similarly to what he does for Mexico. But the idea is good though. I wonder if Bale isn't simply better as a winger then a fullback.Noah and the Bale wrote:Super Laudrup wrote:I don't think that they are clearly on line. I think Mancini should take SWP out right away and replace him with Adebayor and let Tevez play on the wing.

I agree on Tottenham's strikers. I don't rate either Crouch or Defoe so obviously Harry plays both of them. If Tottenham were playing Modric behind Pav then Tottenham would look better.
Defoe, on form, is fantastic. Problem is, he tends to have a 3-4 month hot streak, and when off form, is totally anonymous.
Crouch, for me, should be a sub at best. Never been a massive fan simply because of his immobility.
I would like to see Harry put Bale at left back, Gio on the left and get rid of Assou Ekotto. A Bale / Gio overlapping left side has the potential to be something special, particularly in the Champions League.
That is true and I give credit for the quick passing but for me Silva/SWP weren't good enough defensively either. Plus the fact that I simply don't rate any of City's defenders.stinger wrote:But it's exactly where Huddlestone i Modric have done well - being outnumbered in centre midfield they make sure to move the ball quickly to advanced wingers, they offered good ball movement allowing Lennon and Bale to attack City's fullbacks. Why would you get rid of him. He's been awesome today. You should at least retain him in the squad.Noah and the Bale wrote:Super Laudrup wrote:I don't think that they are clearly on line. Regarding Gio at LW or LM. I don't think it would work. He doesn't seem like a left sided player to me. For me he should play AM or RM.

Nah, not really. We've beaten City 11 of the last 13 meetings. We should have beaten them again today. I see it as 2 points lost, particularly as City will have had time to gel and will be playing at home next time we take them on at Eastlands

Its only a good result for Spurs if you believe the ManC hype. Its not a good result and could have been prevented if they started with better strikers.TheCrazy58 wrote:FT 0 - 0. Good result for both teams. I'd be happy for us to take a point from Anfield tomorrow.

Sorry fellow Gooners but I *heart* Bale.
Spurs have unfortunately got the making of a good team but they are limiting their progress by persisting with their Europa league strikers(forcing them to play the outdated 4-4-2). Pav is their only striker who could develop into a CL level striker, play him alone upfront and bring in an extra midfielder or wing forward to make it a 4-2-3-1 or 4-1-4-1 or 4-3-3. This reminds of how England forced a 4-4-2 upon themselves by persisting with Heskey, benching that joker and bringing in someone like Adam johnson or Joe Cole could have made a difference.
I'm glad this game finished 0-0 as I don't think we'll get anything more than a draw at Anfield tomorrow.

Dawson is rated for the same reason Carragher, Terry, Vidic, Dunne etc. are all rated by fans of their respective clubs - he represents the average fan on the pitch.

first half was better than anything the WC dished up. Second half wasn't as open with both teams getting a little tired but Spurs definately showed more attacking intent. Don't understand City at all, they didn't have any strikers today, Silva and Tevez need to be part of a front 3 behind Adebayor and they found it too hard to get any real link up play going today. Yaya Toure had a great game, as did Hart but City badly need a right back still and a manager with a bit more balls.

Mancini's 4-3-3-0 experiment is probably a success so far, because he obviously went there hoping for a draw.
