I thought it was a pretty intense and interesting game with a lot of good football actually. Only the play acting was off-putting, but that's probably unavoidable...unfortunately.

That's just nonsense and I don't think that any Madrid fan will agree with you even.
He has a role to fill in Mourinho's system, and he does that very well. But that doesn't mean that he is limited to that role, far from it. See his performances for Germany.

Keep it simple, play it fast and use the aerial advantage and you have a pretty good formula against Barca.

I know Barça better than you. Based on what they showed in the 101 mins before Ronaldo's goal, I knew that they would be unable to react once Madrid scored first, and especially so late.
As I pointed out earlier (but drew a silly comment from COTR as well) there's no one on the bench to change the game. So if the starting system cannot capitalise on their chances, there's not much hope of a reaction. Goals like Iniesta against Chelsea are once in a lifetime miracles, not regular occurrences. Unless you're Man. Utd.

Messi is the best player in the world..he can make a goal out of nothing sometimes. It's not about knowing your team IMO..it's just football. Teams can get raped for 90 minutes and still win 1-0 at the end of it.
There was some scrappy moments there at the end, a lucky bounce could put Messi or Villa through on goal..you dont know what can happen. You dont know you've lost at 1-0 down with a lot of minutes to go. You can only be pessimistic as fuck.

Don't know about the bench (you have one of the most expensive squads in Europe at least), but I think that Barca simply have no plan B. They have their system, it's a fine oiled machine that destroys 99% of the competition with ease, but they look clueless if things don't go their way. They can't do things differently, switch to a different approach during the game.

I just knew it that when we missed those 3-4 chances in the second half it's going to be harder.
We were always going to lose on penalties against Casillas, so it was better like this.
We do have a problem with bench in general. You have a bunch of good players across Europe who want to play for us, but only as starters, and nobody want to be left on the bench. This is difficult cause we have to fill that gap with our academy players.
Nevermind, Masch was great as expected. We are looking at a new Marquez, in his early years at the club.

Well Pep tried the Plan B last season but it fucked up everything, including the club's finances.
If the Plan A works 99% of the time, what's the point of having a Plan B that is really something drastically different? It's not a guarantee to work either.
And on a side note, what Plan B would you advocate? Hitting it long? That doesn't really work either against the kind of teams whom Plan A fails against. ie. sides who are already defensively good, organised, and physically dominant.

I'm not on a wind up. I'm calling it as I see it. I also accept that my perception of a player may be proven wrong over time.
Put simply, if Bale is truly a one trick Facking ranner as you have said in the past, then I'm still waiting to see khedira's trick. Does what he needs to I ll give him that. But it ain't pretty

Assuming Barca are going to play the reserves at the weekend, the key thing in CL 1st leg could be that they have had 7 days rest instead of 4.
People will say its the same for both but I think Barca need more energy to play their game and will benefit more.
Barca will always find it difficult v Mourinho if his team scores 1st - as will any team - with more energy they can impose thir quick passing & pressing game and make sure that that is never the case.

Let's say a plan B for the last 15 minutes when you needed a goal and were tired, as was the opposition. Take off the (relatively ineffective) Villa, bring in a true #9 targetman who isn't totally inept as far as keeping the ball and passing is concerned (e.g. a Drogba type), try more long balls against the tired Real defence, be more direct in general, don't solely rely on Messi to provide the change of pace with his runs and create 'surprise' moments in your game.
I'm not saying that Barca should change their style or anything (why change a working formula after all), just have alternatives for certain situations, to have the ability to do something the opponent doesn't expect.
That, too.

Bidding for Bendtner starts at £15m, oh hell, Barca always love over-paying for our players...bidding starts at £20m.
